About Delta Future Orders?

Tue Jan 23, 2001 7:33 am

Could Delta order other B.777s at the moment they have ordered only 13 now?
Any ideas for a signature?

It's almost a given that they will.

It's pretty embarrassing when your the most flown airline in the world and have a massive trans-atlantic presence and all you have is 7 of the 777's in service with 6 more on order.Meanwhile United has somewhere around 50 and American has a total of 50 or so once all are delivered. Its a shame but Delta is, always has been, and always will be a follower and they won't be innovators, rather they react to the competition.Theres no reason Delta shouldn't have 50 or more 777's on the book, but being the overly-cautious airline we are, we buy a few token aircraft so we can say we have the hottest toy in the neighborhood. Its really a shame because Delta, if they wanted to, they could really move to the head of the class if they only wanted to.Oh well, wishful thinking I guess.

DELTAMD-11, I must agree with everything you said. I wish too, that they had more of the 777s, and I would love to see some 744s in their colors. However, Delta was extremely profitable last year. And though they have not been as of late, it has nothing to do with a lack of larger aircraft in their fleet. I do think that sometimes DL is a little slow in reacting to competition, as with this whole merger mania thing, but they have been around for a LONG time, and have always had their heads above water, so I don't doubt their decisions generally speaking. There are some decisions I question, but I have faith in them.

I love Delta.....always have since the first time I flew with them 12 years ago. Lately DL has been lacking, behind in aircraft ordering, behind in passenger comfort, etc. For instance, loads on their 777s over the pond have been dropping, but the 763s have been rising considerably, hmmm......I wonder why. Seat pitch in coach on Delta is literally the cattle car, Delta's mentality is lets stuff as many people as we can into that little metal tube, without thinking of the passengers.

I really hope that Delta will improve the state they are in now and now I am hearing that the 777s & 767s will be completely gutted and reconfigured. Hope, maybe.

Delta has always been one step behind - true. Sad

I think that Delta will order some more 777's when It decides on a merger plan. Not before then. It has no need (my opinion). I think they'll order about 20-25 ER's.
DeltaSFO - - Do you know what Delta is doing about its 767-300's??? Are they sufficient or will they need to be updated with the 777 order??? 764's??? Smile I hope so.

I am sure that Delta will order more 777-200ERs when their MD-11s are no longer useful, and they sell them to maybe FED EX or UPS to become freighters.

Delta doesn't need that many 777s because they have a very large and magnificant fleet of 767s. The 777s can do the few very heavy international routes, such as London, Paris, Tokyo, and Frankfurt, but the 767s can do the rest.

The reason Delta dosen't have more B-777 is because they take up such a great amount of gat space. Not all airports have that space available. I don't know how UA and AA do it.

I think once DL resolves its pilot situation, expect DL to place what could be the biggest single 777 order in history--as many as 60 planes, with 40 777-200ER's and 20 777-300ER's.

The reason is simple: DL may be preparing for a push to Asia markets, and believe me, given the load factors for trans-Pacific flights a 772ER isn't going to cut it (note that UA was flying a number of flights to Asia using the 772ER but has now switched mostly to using 747-400's).

I am a college student and my roommate's father is a 777 FO for Delta. He told me that they are definitely oredering more 777s at some point. He said we will most likely see another order by 2003.
