Bwia New Fleet?

I am just curious to know if anyone has knows what wide body aircraft BWIA is going to replace the L1011's with??

They have yet to make a final decision on that topic. At present they are concentrating on their single-aisle fleet and organization of their hub-and-spokes network called "World of Choices". The 6 737-8Q8s which they have obtained have replaced the TriStars on the JFK and YYZ routes as well as serving MIA and IAD; their acquisition has allowed 1 of the 5 MD83s to be returned to the leasors.

At present 1 TriStar is stored engineless and gutted (9Y-TGJ, although it has the new paint job), 9Y-TGA is being repainted and 9Y-TGN and N3140D are active. 40D is to be retired once TGA is repainted; it is the only TriStar still in BWIA's old scheme (which is also present on only 2 of the 4 remaining MD80s).

The present fleet is therefore 3 TriStars, 4 MD83s, 6 737-8Q8s and 3 Dash 8 Q300s.

Trintocan,

Does BWIA have enough long-range capacity to dispose of any L-1011-500? They did not cease any services - as far as I know. Are your sure it's not a temporary storage of TGJ?

The latest that I heard is that BWIA might be getting the Airbus A340-200. They might get the A330-200 also. I hope they get the airbus aircraft. It is romoured that the pilots dont wanna fly over the Atlantic with 2 engines.

They haven't been able to sell their L1011-500s (asking way over the top for them) and the recent IPO was not a success. There is not enough cash in the kitty to pay for the B737NGs on order; let alone pay deposits on new long haul aircraft. The L10s will therefore be in service for at least another three to five years - probably longer.

Notarzt, in answering your question the TriStars are now only used to LHR. With the 737-8Q8s having mostly taken over the North American routes on which TriStars were flown (JFK, YYZ) BWIA decided to keep only 2 TriStars in service, with one plane at a time active and the other as a backup. At peak periods, however, the TriStars would be used into JFK to accommodate the great passenger and baggage loads typical on the route (which, especially the latter, have already shown the 737-8Q8 to be inadequate).

9Y-TGJ was retired because it needed a C-check and corrosion repairs, unlike the other TriStars.

I don't what BWee is going to do. Hopefully the new ATL route will help make them some money to at least put a little towards the 738s. They are in need of some kind of long hauler because the TriStars are eating them up with the cost of keeping them alive. Hopefully something good happens sometime in the near future. I'll always love my national airline, AKA the airline of the caribbean.

Wait, didn't BWee cancel the ATL route before it was ever started? As far as I know, they only serve IAD, JFK, and MIA.
