ORD-SAV On CRJ /United Express

Fri Jan 26, 2001 7:24 am

I am flying from O'Hare to Savannah in March on a Canadier RJ/ United Express flight. I have never been on a CRJ before and don't know what to expect. Is it very claustrophobic in the cabin? How does it handle turbulence? Has anyone been on that flight?

Thanks in advance.

It is a 2 hour 20 minute flight. You will be fine. 2 1/2 hours is max for a CRJ until it gets bad, i mean its like a mini-jet, everything is smaller. I flew a 1 hour CVG-IAD flighta and i wasnt even close to being claustrophobic. It is actually rather wide, just think of an F-100 with one less seat.

I have flown on the CRJ on other routes and can say that it handles well. The seating inside the cabin is 2 X 2 on Comair, probably the same on United Express. If you get a chance check out the flight deck on this aircraft. Very impressive! A new stretch 70 seat version is on its way to the airlines this year.

I've flown about 50 flights on UA's CRJs. One similar flight I took was Chicago-Charleston, SC. Flying time was only about 1 hr 40 mins. I've noticed the back right section of the fuselage is annoying to sit in. The plastic wall on the back ride side of the plane (interior) seems to vibrate lots, on almost every CRJ I've been on. So try to sit up front, on the left. Also, if you like looking out the windows, prepare your neck with exercises, as the windows are very low down, and really hurt your neck.

Thanks for all the replies. I will be in the front on both legs (seat 4B/ 3C), and I was thinking of asking for a window seat, but now I'm not so sure.

The smallest jet I've been on was a Tupolev-134 (2x2 seating, 75 total). Last time was on Malev in 1994 SOF-BUD-SOF and it was pretty good for a 45min flight. And it looks a lot roomier than a CRJ.

The only CRJ's I've flown on are those of AC.
I was on an Air Canada CRJ from Toronto to Nashville last March and we hit some heavy weather comming into Nashville. The plane was full, all 50 of us, and a lot of yelps came from the back, however it wasnt tossed around as bad as I thought it was, the pilot said it was a good weather handler. Air Canada has a policy with the number of F/A's on board, 1 if he/she is billingual 2 if the purser is not bilingual. With 1 flight attendant there is more room in the aisles and the cabin seems much more spacious. The seats are fairly narrow and shorter and not to mention harder than on a larger jet but you are certainly capable of being able to with stand it for 2 1/2 hours.
