Yes it is real, however is it safe? I do not think so, the beach should be closed while aircraft are landing. That being said, a sunbathing spot right on the extended runway centerline where my feet could reach the water is where I would like to be!!!!! Big grin
I have no memory of this place.

Where have you been haha? The fence was taken out by a 747 once too.

I heard a report not too long ago that the beech has been closed since some of those photos have been taken, though that was an admittedly lower than usual landing

I am quite sure I have seen a photo of an aircraft even lower than that AF747.

I think a certain section of it should be closed due to low aircraft, although if it weren't safe, they wouldn't have opened the beach or the airport(which ever was there second).

Look at this! The same airport, but this time, the aircraft is MUCH lower on the approach!

I wonder why it would not be safe? I guess approaches over most densely populated areas are much more dangerous... If a 747 touched down BEFORE the runway anywhere, the damage would have been more serious then injuring several people on the beach.

Anyway, the people who go to this particular beach certainly choose to do so for the airplanes...

Hey Dazed...

I think it was an Air France 747 that hit the fence and the pilot was suspended. One of his first flights after the suspension was another charter to SXM and killed the fence once again and was fired.
