ATC,Career Help

Fri Jan 26, 2001 12:11 pm

I am Planning my future already(I'm in 12 grade)

I will study in college Aviation Management. This career prepares you for many jobs related with aviation like Airline or Airport Manager,Passanger Services,Air Cargo Manager and ATController.

I rather choose the ATController way,So I want to know:

-how much they get paid.
-Is a Job (like pilots) that you're not able to have a formal familly ?
-I am able to work on my home airport ?
-I think that My home Airport (SJU)is an ARTCC ("center"),What's the difference ?

Thanks In Advance,

Well man take it from me. Your a senior, dont be giving up some of the best times that are still ahead. Keep in mind a medical. If you have nothing but a pure aviation background and you loose your medical, which both pilots and controllers need to have, where will you go? Make sure you have something to fall back on. Just for question where are you going to go for AV. Managment? I feel that I jumped into my career to early and I missed some good times. I am not that much older than you. I have a friends who are controllers, they like it but they also have there bad times. Another thing that you have to look at is the advancement of technology, this could lead to lay off etc. in a worse case scenario. As far as money and family either which way you go it will change with time, sometimes without you having any control. Personally as a pilot I love being in the air instead of in front of a screen. I took some ATC stuff in college, I much prefer the big open sky, I will say though that controllers are the best, they make my job much easier. Either way you go you will be set, be ready for some odd times and remember, enjoy the next couple years, dont get stressed over where to work etc. Hope this helped, write back with more if you want to. For ATC, try the ATC cafe website (www.atccafe.com I think...)

For airport managment, you might try WWW searchs for the AOCI or AAAE. Can't recall the exact names of the organizations. www.aviationnow.com would also be a search location, as would www.aeronet.com
