Lufthansa 744

Sat Jan 27, 2001 2:52 pm

Does anybody know what route Lufthansa's newest 744 will be flying? Is it replacing an older 747-200 (ABYM maybe?) or just supplementing the fleet? Boston could really use an upgrade!

don´t think it´s used to replace a 742.
as far as i know the a-340-600 will retire the 742s, and most probably some 744 will take over some 742-routes.
could be that the new 744 is replacing an a-340 to free up some capaticies LH needs to introduce daily services to denver and phoenix.
LH will receive a further 4 744s until 2006 and has options on an additional 5 744s.
but atually, i still think the new 744 is just supplementing the fleet, like you stated, but who knows.

Lufthansa is in the process, this winterschedule, of replacing all A300-600s on medium-longhaul routes with A340s, so I guess the 744 will replace an A340 somewhere, which, on its turn will replace an A300 somewhere else.

What you say about Boston can be said about MIA, JFK, ORD, BOM and any other stations that receive the B742, but, I guess, you just feel somewhat emotionally attached to the BOS-flight...

most of the 742s have a different seating configuration than the 744s. there´s more first and business on the 744s and the 742s got the biggest economy class (330 seats) of all LH 747s.
so that might be another point under consideration when placing 747s on routes such as JFK, MIA, ORD, BOM.
