Air Transat Question

Sun Jan 28, 2001 12:13 pm

Anyone know what aircraft Air Transat is currently using on their YYZ (Toronto) - CUN (Cancun) run.
Is it the L-1011 or the 757???

L1011.

I was in Cancun last month (flying in from Montreal Mirabel). My flight back was delayed, so I got to see the Air Transat flights leaving to other destinations, among other flights. I found that:

YMX is serviced with a L1011-150
YYZ is serviced with L1011s (don't remember which ones)(two were scheduled to leave at the exact same time!)
YYC is serviced with a L1011-500 and
YVR is serviced with a A330.

Air Transat flights are pretty good! The seat pitch isn't that bad. My only complaint is that there is always a big line for the washrooms, which are ALL at the back.

Royal Aviation and Canada 3000 serve Cancun with 757s from YYZ.

Just to add to Carioca Cunuck's comment if AT had their way there would be no washroom either....hehe

ANyway...I think it all depends on time of year and what the loads are...if they can use a 757 then they will....

By the way has anyone seen the Air Transat A310 yet?? It's supposed to be in YYZ this week....!

Very Interesting Question....

My boss at work flew to Cancun a week and a half ago....January 18th to be exact. On the 25th he was suposed to return when the flight didn't show he had to stay a while longer. How long? The flight was to pick them up the next morning at 11. Sounds like AT had a problelm. Anyone know why and what the problem was? My best advice is stay away from AT i have had too many problems!

The main problem with AT is the usually have quite a lot of delays. Not always, but quite often. Most people I know that have flown them were delayed a couple of hours at least, which when departing from Montreal Mirabel (not very many flights) is quite a long delay.

Thanks for the responses guys. I haven't flown on an L-1011 since Air Canada had them. For your information I work as a ramper at Pearson - Terminal 3 (Air Transat's) terminal, but unfortunately I don't work for Air Transat. Or I would be going for much cheaper than I am. I know it soulnds wierd that I wouldn't know which aircraft they use for this run, seeing that I'm pretty much surrounded by them everyday. As for the delays in Toronto. Our company has had to wait a few times (sorry, meaning our aircraft has had to wait on the taxiways) for Air Transat to clear our gate, thus delaying us in having ample time to set it up.

We service the following:
Cathay Pacific - A340
KLM - 747
PIA - 747
Korean Air Cargo - 747
2 Ace Cargo (DHL, Burlington) - 727
ICC - A300
Airborne Express - DC-9
Used to do Qantas last summer until they left - 767

Whats A Ramper?

Call me stupid but could you tell me a bit about a ramper and your duties?

Thanks,

A ramper is a ramp attendant - responsible for servicing aircraft while parked at the gate or terminal. We load - unload all passenger baggage and cargo basically. Among other things: service the lavs, supply ground power to the aircraft, refill the potable water. Basically everything to get your flight ready for its next run. We are the guys who determine if you have a fun and enjoyable trip. Word of advice do not check in late and do not over pack your suitcase. Things rampers hate to deal with. If you are late and your suitcase is split open in the bagroom you will then know why your plane is delayed and feel free to tell the other remaining passengers that it is your fault, you will be loved by all. Just some words of advice. Sorry if I sound rather disgruntled it didn't mean to sound that way

Isn't the Air Transat A310 coming from Emirates? Apparently, it was at Mirabel the day I returned from Cancun, but I didn't know at the time and missed it!  Sad

Hello:

First, regarding the YYZ-CUN flight, I suspect it will be a good ol' L1011-15.
In YMX, flights to CUN are operated by L1011-15 (C-FTNL last Sunday), and there is no reason to operate smaller aircraft on this run out of YYZ.

Regarding the A313 (C-GFAT, really), it came in YMX late December. First flight was supposed to be last week to Port of Spain (out of YYZ) I think but I may be wrong on this one.
And No PTV as mentioned Slawko.
Other A313s expected in March/April.

The first A-310 arrived in Mirabel on Jan. 15. It first flew last Friday (the 26th) and I helped turn the aircraft around the next morning when it came back to YMX. It then flew to FLL.

Yes, the PTVs have been taken out, but there are 42" plasma screens onboard, making LCD monitors look cheap.

Steven
