Sun Jan 28, 2001 1:12 pm

DL will take delivery of it's 14th 767-400, ship #1815 (#1803 has not been delivered yet), on Jan. 28. Two 737-800's, ships #3741, #3742 will be delivered Jan. 28, and Feb. 1 respectively bringing the 738 count to 42.

Also, an L1011-100, ship #731 will be retired on Feb. 1. This a/c was aquired new and is 20.10 years old. After this a/c retires, the L1011 fleet will number only 14.
A 727-200, ship #564, is scheduled to be retired on Feb. 2. This a/c is 26.76 years old and was originally aquired new by Western Airlines and subsequently joined the DL fleet after the Western merger. DL will have 79 727's in the fleet after this a/c retires.

Here is the paint schedule for the next two weeks. Three MD88's ship#902, 903, 945, two 767-300ER's #190, 194, and one 737-300 #201. After these a/c are painted there will be 102 a/c repainted in the newest livery.

They are painting 190 & 194 already? I still don't understand why it is more important to paint a three-year-old International airplane rather than a Domestic 767 (ship 127) that has quite obviously been painted with rollers (and outside the lines no less...).
This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.

This is very interesting stuff. I was wondering how many MD90's have been repainted and when the whole MD90 fleet will be completed.

I don't think the MD-90s will be repainted because they are going to be replaced in a few years I believe with new 737-800s.

TEDSKI,
DL will not replace the -90s in a few years. These planes still got about 8-10 more years in DLs fleet before any major replacement begins. Anyway, DL just painted a 727 in the NC!

My Ford Taurus is still in the old old colors and should be painted in the new flag colors quite soon. Hopefully, the MARTA trains can be painted in the new flag colors as well. I plan on proposing that the interior bulkheads, seats, lavatory doors, meal trays, and flight attendant uniforms be adjusted to show company unity.

MD-90 ship 9215 is in the new colors already. Several 727's are in the new colors as well.

Seems to me that DL is painting their fleet fairly quickly. When will their entire fleet sport the newest colours?

Delta has wasted so much time and $$ with all these stupid paint things.....Had they just gotten a decent
livery back in 1997, then this would not have been a
necessity.

And those 767-400's doing things like MCO-ATL? I
really don't get Delta's strategy. Probably because it
has none. What Delta needs is more 777's. It's way
behind the competition.

Just to let you know, the reason for the ATL-MCO routes for the B767-400 is for pilots to gain t.o/landing
and flying time. The B777 was on this route in the begining also.

Im sure if you paid any attentioin to CO, you would have noticed they did the same thing. Short routes for there pilots to get t.o/landing time.

It sure looked interesting yesterday seeing that CO 737 being towed into the Delta hanger in DFW.

F.Y.I

Delta only has 11 L1011's left in the fleet.

Also, as of 1/24/01...Delta has 96 aircraft in the newest livery.

COEWR,
The 764s will operate internationally soon enough. More 777s are on the way. Please explain what you mean by Delta having no plan?

You say DL is way behind the competition, just to remind you, that as kick ass CO has become, and I totally admire Bethune's strategy, your carrier still remains number 5. DL is the big 3. The big 3 overall run the nation's air transport. Also, you have no room to criticize DL over their lack of 777 aquisitions. DL has over 100 757s and 767s alone. CO will never have the load factors and customer following to justify boosting its 757/767 fleet to over 100. That is why Bethune is such a genious, he's figured this out and is getting his hands on as many 737s as he can. Continental is doing well and increasing its business loads, but the truth is, you go into any of the major fortune 1000 and you will find that their employees are for the most part all Dividend, Skymiles, Advantage or Mileage Plus members. My company offers the CO plan, NOONE ever does it.

ContinentalEWR, I was waiting for you to chime in here. Seems like you have a comment for everyone, and everything Especially if its regarding Delta. You need to chill out before you have all of us Delta Diehards on you.

BTW, I think Continental is a great airline

Tx Islander, where on Earth are you getting your bogus figures from? If you work for Delta, consult the DL Tech Ops home page, find the category aircraft statistics, then select fleet listing. There you will see for yourself that after ship #731 retires there will be 15 L10's left in the fleet.

ContinetalEWR, since you are obviously ignorant to the facts about DL's fleet strategy, let me enlighten you. The 767-400 was ordered years ago as a domestic trunk replacement for the L1011. The L1011 has been flying on the ATL-MCO route for decades (as well as mnay other Florida routes). The flights are consistently booked to capacity hence the use of the 400 on this route (not to mention that the route is ideally suited for pilot training). I read in one of your other equally ridiculous posts that DL is "stupid" for using the 777 on this route and yet that is exaclty
what you suggest is needed in your post above. The 767-400 is one of the most comfortable and economical aircraft in the sky. This aircraft is testimony to the fact that DL is forging ahead NOT lagging behind.

You have wasted so much of our time posting flames about Delta. Had you just gotten a life, we wouldn't have to read the same old stuff from you every day.

And why don't you tell us what CO's 777s were doing flying EWR-MCO and IAH-MCO? I really don't get your train of thought. Probably because you have none. What you need is to learn about your own favorite carrier before you criticize others. You are lagging way behind everybody else in aviation knowledge.

MCO And DL757s

Mon Jan 29, 2001 3:44 pm

Again sorry for the my ignorance, but what airport is referred to by the code MCO? And in regards to an earlier post if anyone working for Delta sees this, is it not true that some of your 757s have rows NUMBERED to row 47. The gate agent in SLC told me the plane had 47 rows, but when I posted that I was informed by virutally everyone who saw that number that it must be incorrect. can someone explain

MCO refers to Orlando Intl airport. The 757 row number goes up to 45. The 767-300 goes up to 47. You can verify this by visiting the DL website and clicking on aircraft configuration.

I find that highly strange. I'm sure it was a 757 (3-3 config in coach) and I'm sure the gate agent said row 47. Oh well, no one's perfect. Thanks for the info widget!
