Mon Jan 29, 2001 2:44 pm

I'm flying NW to FCO (Rome) in their new WorldBusiness class next week. Can anyone tell me what I can expect?

You will like the extra legroom and increased seat recline. The seats are the same though.

The food is great and now they have a designated chief pursor so the service is better. The FA's seem happier to be there as the capacity is less.

You feel more elite.

There are no winged headrests, but you will find PTVs and a good foot rest.

Check out the nwa.com site for a virtual tour of the new cabin and more information.

This Is Your Captain Speaking....

There is a very good chance you can expect Dennis Jorgensen as your captain on that flight..i believe my dad is doing that trip next week. I know he is doing it sometime in the next week or so.

I am flying KLM World Business Class to Amsterdam in August. Excited about that.

NWA 747-400: Have you flown World Business Class to Rome? Or are you referencing information from the web site?

If you flew NWA World Business Class before than you won't know the difference. The only improvement that they have made is with Seat Recline. That's it. If you are tall the leg rests don't come down enough. And if you take your feet off the rest, they snap back up. What is with that?

Food, sorry but it is the same. Now I always liked NW's food.

PTV. Exactly the same. Not interactive. Limited selection.

Service. Thank God you're not flying to Asia. Those old ladies are rotten. The only thing you have to look forward to is the Asian cabin crew on the connections in NRT.

I'd take AZ.

Not to Rome.

But I have done various trips to and thru AMS on NW DC10s and 747s.

I would argue that the added seat pitch is also very noticable, even if you haven't flow World Business Class before, it's a lot more than I have seen on most Business Classes.

I think that interactive PTVs will come with the new A330s, as will winged headrests, and a foot rest that works better for tall people (I'm only 5'10 so it isn't a problem)

Wpr8e, I can definitely echo your sentiments regarding the FA's on their Asian-Pacific flights. I fly to Seoul several times a year and the difference in service between the U.S.-originating flights and NRT ones are significant. Some of them, and they are mostly mature, you just have to wonder why they do it--they seem so unhappy.

WBC is definitely better although they haven't finished with the 744's yet so they're still the same as far as the seats. I would imagine they use DC-10's though for Europe and they're all finished with them. Food's a little better, you can use the WorldClubs lounges for free, and you might get your bags out first in the baggage claim area (this especially happens in Asia, VERY rarely in the U.S.).

It does pale in comparison though to KE, SQ and the other ones everyone here knows all about.

I have flown WBC many times and ifnd it terrific. With the enhancements in pich, recline, food, service and entertainment, it will likely be even better! Just read that new seat covers and curtains will be in place by the beginning of summer and that new headsets and a new digital entertainment system is launching shortly. Then in the near future, a new WBC seat will be launched. This all per PASSAGES and Richard Andersons letter to the company. Be patient! THings will get even better!! Enjoy your trip.

Then why on earth did they launch a new "World Business Class" when it appears that we have to wait for the New seats and IFE to appear.

Because NW listens to customers and they wanted more legroom, more recline, and better food.

The new seats will come with the A330, but NW just wanted a rapid solution in response to customer suggestions and input.

I just did the Detroit to Rome flight...and now I'm back. The new World Business Class is just a temporary solution while we are waiting for the new aircraft. The food is excellent. The seats are comfortable. The entertainment isn't bad, although at times I wonder about the movies. I have never had any trouble with any of our Flight Attendants. True, they aren't the youngest, but then again these routes require the most seniority. If you treat our Flight Attendants like people and actually have a conversation with them, you will have some of the best service in the sky.

Of course, I am a little biased.

Aviation is proof that, given the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible.
