NW Airbuses?

Tue Jan 30, 2001 10:20 am

I was conversing with a friend whose dad is a pilot for NW. (I live in OKC, with MEM of course being their closest hub.) I haven't actually spoken extensively with him, and unfortunately my friend is rather lacking in knowledge about the industry. I asked about his type ratings and she only knew that "he flies an Airbus or something now, but he used to fly the 747." My question is, does NW have 340s on order/in use? That or the 330 would seem the only logical progression from the 747, unless he was going from 747 FO to captaining on, say, the 320. I'll have to inquire further. If it helps, he was in the USAF for awhile (she was an AF brat through age 12 or so), so he may hold extra tenure or somesuch.

Northwest has A-320s and A-330s on order, and I'm not sure about 319s, and 321s. It looks like they plan to switch most domestic shorthaul flights to Airbus, longhaul domestic flights to Boeing, shorthaul international to Airbus, and lonhaul international to Boeing.

My dad is a DC-10 capt for NW... it sounds like he was a 747 F/0 and went to the 320 to be a captain..alot of the pilots do that. from the bottom to the top in NW it is (the ones in parentheses are on order) They usually start the new highers either as flight engineers on the 727 or 747...or first officers on the DC-9.

727 (they will be gone in a couple years)
(757-300- in 2002-4)
DC 10 ( -40's phased out starting 02, -30's phased out starting 3-8)
(A330- in 2002-8)
