The End Of HeavyLift-Volga Dnepr

Well it seems what has been a successful partnership has now come to an end. What I fail to understand is what Volga-Dnepr are thinking. Especially when Air Foyle and Antonov are increasing their partnership, and are taking on An-225s into the heavy outsized cargo market. At least with HeavyLift, VD had a successful marketing program, which I think, frankly will be hard to do on their own (unless of course they have found another partner and not releasing details as yet).

Успешное совместное российско-британское предприятие (СП Big grin HeavyLift-VolgaDnepr LTD, созданное 17 сентября 1991 г. для представления уникального грузового самолета Антонов Ан-124-100 на международном рынке, исчерпало возможности для целей развития и прекращает свое существование с 1 февраля 2001 г. С этой даты авиакомпания "Волга-Днепр" будет работать на рынке Ан-124-100 самостоятельно.

The successful joint Russian-British enterprise, HeavyLift-VolgaDnepr Ltd, created on 17 September 1991, for representation of the unique cargo plane of Antonov An-124-100 in the international market, has exhausted opportunities for the purpose of development and will cease operations on 1 February 2001. From this date Volga-Dnepr will work in the An-124-100 market independently.

Almost ten years history of successful partnership of the two companies, combining Heavylift's marketing experience and Volga-Dnepr's unique technology in the delivery of cargo, has proven the reliability, efficiency and the competitiveness of the An-124-100. Over this period, the new market of air cargo transportation was created, with volumes growing annually. The partners will continue discussion on other sources of cooperation.

Основной причиной решения "Волга-Днепр" о прекращении деятельности СП явилось то, что форма предприятия не позволяет привлечь серьезные инвестиции для дальнейшего расширения парка Ан-124-100, повысить юридическую и финансовую ответственность перед клиентами.

The principal cause of Volga-Dnepr's decision about the termination of the was that the form of the enterprise does not allow to involve serious investment for the further expansion of the An-124-100, and to increase the legal and financial responsibility before the clients.

С целью повышения удобства для заказчиков "Волга-Днепр" открыла свои дочерние компании, которые являются центрами продаж на основных рынках: в Великобритани и в США .

For the purpose of increasing convenience to Volga-Dnepr, the airline has opened representation in the centres of sales in the company's basic markets: in the UK and in USA.

And Now For The Twist.......

As with all things that involve a Russian company, nothing is ever straight forward. There is always a twist of sorts, and hence this:

KIEV, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Ukraine's Antonov Airlines said on Tuesday it was keen to enter talks with British HeavyLift Cargo Airline on leasing the firm An-124-100s, the world's largest aircraft. HeavyLift said on Monday its leasing agreement with Russia's Volga-Dnepr for six 120-tonne capacity An-124s had been terminated and it was seeking replacement aircraft. Konstantyn Lushakov, director of Antonov Airlines, told Reuters in a telephone interview that his company, which operates eight of the superheavy planes, also known as the Ruslan, was ready for talks.
"If HeavyLift turns to us, we are ready to discuss the cooperation issue," Lushakov said. "We are ready for such cooperation because we need the work." Lushakov said working with HeavyLift would not affect his company's long-standing cooperation with British Air Foyle, its worldwide general sales agent and Heavylift's chief rival on the international aircargo market. Volga-Dnepr, which operates 10 An-124s, said it was parting ways with HeavyLift because is was seeking to improve its ability to attract investment money.

Could we actually expect to see 3 different companies operating An-124s out of the UK? Air Foyle, HeavyLift and Volga-Dnepr.

I wouldn't imagine that Air Foyle would be too happy with this arrangement that HeavyLift and ADB are looking into to.

Is there some opportunity for co-operation between Air Foyle and HeavyLift in the future?

These are going to be interesting times ahead nonetheless.

You know, I think a company like Air Foyle ought to get serious financing and have the An 124's rebuilt or new planes built to be based in England. I'd like to see the An 124's fitted with more modern EFIS cockpits and a possible installation of the Rolls-Royce Trent 770 engines so the An 124 can fly further and lift heavier loads.

Well being a Ukrainian, all be it one living in Canada, I am very happy to see that The British companies are looking to invest in ADB. I don't think that this will cause problems, It may be interesting to see all three companies operating in co-operation with each other, With the slow down of the economy, tha theavy lifting cargo companies of the world, may have to look at consolidation of opperations to stay alive, and this may be the first sign of this happening.....I wonder what the people at V-D are thinking about this new arrangement. I can't imagine that they are too happy to see the Ukrainian's getting some of their old business.
