TWA Aviators Elite One And Other FFP's

Wed Jan 31, 2001 1:54 pm

So that I'm not showing favoritism out of ignorance, help me clear something up...

A couple of weeks after reaching Elite 1 membership on TWA, the gate agents would upgrade me to First Class anytime a seat was available. This was without any reward certificates. The first time it happend, I asked the agent why she did this and she replied, "We like to take care of our best customers".

Is this common on other carriers?

I should also note that after my first flight with TWA, I refused passage on any other carrier regardless of cost or layover. So long as there flew to my destination!

NW and CO give unlimited upgrades to all their elite fliers depending on their status and price of ticket. The lowest level, silver elite, even get unlimited upgrades as long as seats are available the day before the flight. Gold and platinum, 48 hours on a discounted ticket, at the time of reservation for full-fare. My experience has been they also upgrade on overseas flights if they have the room for gold and platinum members. Be warned however--after getting upgraded regularly, flying in coach in the future will always be much more unpleasant.

I completely agree Aking8488. As an Aviators Elite 1 member myself, I am spoiled. I am really hoping that if American does end up with TWA, that our FF status will transfer along with our miles, but I seriously doubt it. With AA, you have to earn upgrage certificates. I like NW/CO because it operates very similarly to TW, although TW is still more generous. With TW, I can confirm my TWFirst seat 72 hours prior to departure.

I also agree with you TWA717_200, and I also choose TW over other carriers, even if they are less expensive. For example, today I just booked a trip to FLL over Easter. CO was $65 cheaper if I went into PBI (I am going to FLL), but I figured that being in TWFirst and flying into the airport that's closer to where I'm going is worth more than $65.

I love TWFirst and I will sure miss TWA's service if they indeed disappear.
An unexamined life isn't worth living.
