Two JAL Jumbo's Almost Hit In Mid-air!

Thu Feb 01, 2001 11:02 am

I just learned that two Japan Airlines jumbo jets almost had a mid-air collision over Japan. Flight 907, a Boeing 747-400, was flying from Tokyo to Naha. As it was cruising, the TCAS sounded and the jumbo jet carrying 427 people dove, leveled out, and dove again. 32 people were injured, 3 seriously, because, at the time, hot drinks were being served and the trollies flew up into the air, spilling the drinks.
The other aircraft, a DC-10 flying from Pusan to Narita, had to take no evasive action. No one on that aircraft was injured. The planes missed each other by only 60 meters.

Also, had these two planes hit, over 700 people would have ceratinly perished, making it the worst accident in history!
