UAL 777s Disappearing?

Tue Feb 06, 2001 2:01 pm

Hi,
I was browsing through the UAL timetable and I noticed some shocking things about it.

The 777 routes are disappearing.

For example, IAD-MXP used to be a 777. Now it is a 763. I can understand this somewhat, because there is not much of a demand for Milan, but still puzzling. (Why didn't UAL go for Rome?? Strange people at UAL..)

DEN-ORD doesn't have any 777s anymore. This is very puzzling. That 777 flight left FULL ALL of the time.

Any more disappearing 777s?

What's goin on?

Nope.

Maybe the ongoing taxiway work around C and D at IAD has UA substituting smaller planes to fit the gates, temporarily (gotta love those letters!). But the 777's are not going to go away...

Not since UA has 50 and has ordered more...

Yes, Crashing Them

That's what's happened. As a result, look for Delta to change their livery.

UA is getting more and more 777s. Right now a lot of the 777s are busy on the international flights, thus leaving very few for domestic operations.

There are a few 777s in a 2 class configuartion serving the domestic markets such as HNL, DEN, ORD and so on.

Yes, ILUV767, that's what probably happened. United is getting more 777s.

us carriers and other carriers often prefer milan over rome because milan is italy´s business center, you can make more money on routes to milan.

I checked the latest UA Timetable, and I see that more Hawaii flights are now using 777's.Probably since the 747-238B & soon DC-10-30's are history. UA also no longer flies 747's to Hawaii from SFO.So maybe that can explain. I am flying ROC-ORD-LAX-KOA in March and the ORD-LAX is a 777  Smile (757 to KOA)

Shawn Patrick,
Thats not possible because I'm going on a 777 this spring from DEN to ORD. We get a TON of 777s here in Denver. A TON. Here is one of my pics, I haven't submitted it to airliners.net yet. I will once I get a new scanner, so I can get better results. This is a United Airlines Boeing 777-200 approaching Runway 16 at Denver Int'l (DEN):

Shawn Patrick,
I see you are a Denver resident too. Anyways, there are 2 or 3 777 flights from Denver (DEN) to Chicago (ORD), I think its 2 but it could be 3.

Kind regards.

I live outside of Denver in a small (but rapidly growing) town called Broomfield. We have flown MANY times to ORD on a 777 from DEN, and continued on the same aircraft to Paris. That was two years ago, but I just thought I'd share. Does anyone know if this has changed? Thanks for reading!

You all should really go to the ual website and download the electronic timetable. It takes 15-20 minutes on a standard modem.

To summarize, though: UA flies 777s nonstop from DEN to:
EWR
IAD (2x)
LAX (2x)
MIA
SEA
SFO (2x)

Hope this helps (no they're not disappearing).

IAD-MUC will also be downgraded to a 767 as of February 14... perhaps they're moving 777s to routes currently or previously occupied by 744s (like JFK-NRT) to open up the 744s for the RTW starting in April?
Ask why..

Nope, they're not disappearing; they're going to the Pacific!

From this week's Aviation Week & Space Technology:

'United Bases ETOPS 777 Operation From San Francisco'

UAL is using SFO as its base for expanded 180-min. daily ETOPS transpacific operations with 777s. The aircraft that made its inaugural flight last month to Beijing Capital Int'l Airport is shown (in a picture next to the article) being serviced by Beijing Air Catering Co. in preparation for its return to SFO. SFO has become United's largest ETOPs operation center, with 777s also replacing non-stop 747 services to Tokyo, Honolulu, and Maui. In a sign of the growing China market, United also is offering nonstop 747 flights from SFO to Shanghai. Previously, Shainghai and Beijing were reached via Tokyo's Narita airport from the U.S. West Coast. A United official couldn't say when the Shanghai flight might be switched to a 777.

Don't count on that many. Aside from the few flights to Hawaii, NRT has been upgraded, and PEK is the only Pacific destination to receive them...

Considering the amount of time it takes to fly over, turn, and fly back, the NRT and PEK flights should be least 3 new 777 additions to SFO and therefore removals from other routes. Just my 2c.

Maybe I wasn't too clear in that last post...

The 747's that were on SFO-PEK have been swapped for the 777's that were on the SFO-NRT route. ie: PEK is the only international Pacific destination to receive 777's from SFO (which would also imply that there are no additional 777 flights at SFO...)

It looks like UAL might be taking some 777's off of their trans atlantic flights at well. They have 777's scheduled to fly into AMS from Chicago and Washington but lately I have been seeing 763 (maybe 762) at AMS I am guessing that since UAL opened up their ORD-AMS route that the demand for passengers out of WAS has decreased and they switched over to the smaller 767. This is still quite a bit bigger then the 757's that CO is flying out of EWR. Interesting how United is utilizing their fleet and should be even more so when (if ) they integrate with US Airways who is in the process of expanding European operations significantly. Any predictions on the future of 777 flights over the North Atlantic?

The 763 to AMS comes from LHR and this flight will only remain until 31Mar01. Then that LHR slot will be used for a third daily SFO-LHR flight. AMS will have two daily 777 flights from UA from 1Apr01 : one to ORD and one to IAD. From 15Feb01. there will be three UA flights to AMS; ORD-AMS 777, IAD-AMS 777 and LHR-AMS 763. The777Man
Boeing 777s flown: UA, TG, KE, BA, CX, NH, JD, JL, CZ, SQ, EK, NG, CO, AF, SV, KU, DL, AA, MH, OZ, CA, MS, SU, LY, RG, PE, AZ, KL, VN, PK, EY, NZ, AM, BR, AC, DT, UU, OS, AI, 9W, KQ, QR, VA, JJ, ET, TK, PR, BG, T5, CI, MU and LX.. Further to fly.. LH 777

What's the origin of the 763 coming from LHR to AMS? On a route overloaded with aircraft ranging from an ATR to a 767 Im guessing that United doesn't have the demand or the authority to operate a direct LHR-AMS flight unless it is codeshared.

Thanks,

My family and I were thinking of re-locating to Colorado about a year ago. My dad works for United, and there were some openings for maintence managment at Denver last year. I was browsing homeprices, and Littleton was a big consideration for us. There were some really nice houses there, and farly cheap...compared to the Bay Area. Too bad that we did not move.

Everybody, in my point of view, they may just start to throw their 777 force into Eurpoe!?
