Hey! I understand what the 747-400 is and what -400 means and the same for all other aircraft. But what does -438, or -2Q8 or 767-323 or others mean?! Are they specifications? Do the type of engines determine this? Is it visually evident?

My posts/replies are strictly my opinion and not that of any company, organization, or Southwest Airlines.

Like we have mentioned recently before, it is the Boeing customer identification number/letter system.

Hey -438

Lets take the great QANAS for exapmle:
All of QF's aircraft have a registry w/ Boeing (for example)... QF is -X38

747-438 etc... etc... etc...

United is -X22

767-322 etc... etc... etc...

you get the point... there are some extreme exceptions.... Smile
