EWR Tower Updates?

Wed Feb 07, 2001 5:07 pm

Last I heard the new tower was half completed months ago, is there a date set for when the new one will be operational or has this already happened? Is the old one going to remain standing? Thanks

The below text is pasted from:

http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/ewrconstructionoverframe.htm

New Air Traffic Control Tower
This 325' structure, when completed will more than double the operational space available for staff and equipment. With improved positioning for line-of-site control, new state-of-the-art mechanical, electrical and security equipment and redundant power back-up systems, operations from this tower will be greatly enhanced. Construction began in November 1999. The piles and foundation for the tower have been completed and it is currently being erected. Utility relocation work is nearing completion. The tower is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2002.

The tower seems to be of similar (or exact) design to the one at IAH.
