Pan Am?

Thu Feb 08, 2001 5:25 am

Is anyone else unable to access their website today? I had seen previously that they were scaling back some of their routes... I wonder if they're just going to abandon the whole thing... I'd love to see them carve out a niche, but I'm still skeptical at best.

Dude, PanAm went bust like 10 years ago!

Welcome to the new millenium.

I just got on their website. I think they were cutting a couple of routes, but they just announced service to ABE and SJU recently and increased service to SFB which has been their real moneymaker so far.

WishIhadalife:

If you don't know that there's a Pan Am currently operating, I hope you don't seriously consider yourself an aviation enthusiast.

It's not the real Pan Am, but that's not what this person was referring to.

Rominato:

Haven't had any luck getting to their main website, but the reservations site (at ) is still up and running, so it's probably just a server bug. I know they cut Pittsburgh service recently in order to redeploy the aircraft on more profitable routes where they don't have to compete against the majors directly, hence the ABE, SJU, and increased SFB service.

I think the SJU flights are shaping up to be a real cash cow for PA...I wouldn't be surprised if they add a few more aircraft soon and start expanding slowly from Puerto Rico to other markets in the U.S. like Boston (Portsmouth), Philadelphia (Allentown), and perhaps even New York (Long Island-Islip, maybe?). Also, service to Trenton might be nice.

I have mixed feelings on PA III (or IV, depending on how you look at it). On one hand, they bring the proud clipper globe and name to the skies once again. On the other, it's not the real Pan Am, and likely never will be. It's a niche carrier, and unless they have a miracle transformation, they're not going to be a globetrotting pioneer. If I had my way, they'd move HQ to Miami and start flying to some more Caribbean destinations, like Cancun, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Aguadilla, etc.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy But then, they'd probably go bankrupt yet again.

Idiot.  Wink/being sarcastic (Hey, you asked!)

Smile The original Pan Am went bankrupt, as well as the company that purchased and used its name afterwards (known as Pan Am II by most).
