Im going to be going to chicago next month, and im gonna spend some time at O'hare....Does anybody recommend some places for plane Viewing or Days of the week that are particularly busy??
Any help is greatly appreciated :)
There's never at ime during the day when Chicago isn't busy. Whenever the nited fleet is out, the American fleet is in, and vice versa. That's the way it seems.
The way the gates are built, there are few really good places to spot for aircraft. The runways are so expansive that it's difficult to get good views of the aircraft as they land or takeoff. My personal favorite spot to watch is at the end of the L terminal. These are the Delta gates. The views of the runways aren't that good, but it provides great up-close views of the planes as they taxi to and from the north runways. Another fair place to view is from the end of the F termninal.
In passenger numbers, Chicago O'Hare has been surpassed by Atlanta in 1998. It was a close margin. Number three, quite a bit behind the first two, was LAX. London Heathrow was the busiest non-US airport, at no.4, right behind LAX.
Chicago, however, is still number one when it comes to aircraft movements. Altlanta follows it closesly and closely behind Atlanta again is DFW. LAX is number four with quite a gap behind the top three.
Great idea! I did the same thing over spring break and I'm from Michigan. It was wonderful. Everything was SO cool. AND BUSY! We managed to walk around the airport twice. Everywhere in the airport is great (almost). The best place I think (I don't know the terminal) but it is a wing off of the TWA NWA terminal. There is a little US Air (in old colors) gate. THAT is a good place. Also, you HAVE to stay at the Chicago O'hare Hilton. If you've already booked... SWITCH! Request a room with a good wiew. I did that and I could see the whole airport from my hotel room. It was right behind the cntrol tower (10066). Try it. There is a shop that you HAVE to go to. It is ORD and it is all aviation related. Pricy though. I paid $400 for a BA 777 1/100. Just go. You'll like it. E-mail me.
