LTU International Airways

Fri Feb 09, 2001 1:14 am

I am considering a transatlantic trip on LTU and would like to hear from those of you who have flown this airline. I am especially interested in the service, comfort, and safety record of LTU. Thanks for your feedback.

I used to fly with them alot between MIA and DUS, I don't anymore, because the take off time in MIA is 23:55 ET!! Who wants to take off at midnite, not me........, the other reason is, they got rid of their business / first class, only coach, I hate that.

Service ok, F/A's friendly.

Another reason not to go anymore is, they fly A330, last flight I did with them [ DUS - MIA ], they had to refuel in the azores, what a crap plane, not even makes 4,200 nm !!! They should stick to the 767-300 !!!  Smile

I've been once on a LTU flight: it's a typical german holiday carrier...lot of tourists making lot of noise...
service is all right, seat pitch is ok (not worse that SQ or KL), the safety record is comparable to most other european airlines, but they tend to have lots of delays.
where are you flying from and where is the flight going to?

I'm flying from Florida to Dusseldorf. The price was right! $290 USD r/t for a spring fare. Looking forward to my 1st trip to Germany!

I think that's the plane I'll be flying on (A330), but I was told the flight is non-stop. What's this about refueling? My itinerary shows 0 stops!

I flew LTU last summer. I posted a trip report! Just case here it is. I realize its Business Class but never the less!! My experience is far better than KMIA and SailorOrion. I live in Germany and have flown all the charter airlines and LTU is the best of all of them!!

LT 910 (B767-300)

Scheduled departure time: 10:35

Flight time: 9 hours

First impressions: We arrived at the LTU check in 2 hours before the flight. We were checked in swiftly as there was no que for the 2 LTU flights to Cancun and Orlando. We were given the seats we had requested and were in the lounge 5 minutes later. 5/5

Boarding: At Dusseldorf the Passport control is done at the gate. There was a line but they had requested everyone to be there at 9:25. We could see the line from the lounge so we decided to go at aroung 9:45. After waiting in the gate for a while they announced boarding and all the passengers qued up and boarded the 767 through one door. There was no boarding announcemnt for Business class passengers to board first and nothing was done by rows, which created a little caios.3/5

Seat Comfort: The seats on LTU's First Comfort are in a 2-2-2 configuration. Paying well below other airlines fares I had not expected something quite this extravagant. The seat were wide but the legroom was only 48 inches (Though on the A330 this is extended to 55), the recline was very good too along with adjustable headwings. Drinks were served and newspapers were offered. Wonderful amenity kits were given out before take off. 5/5

Flight: We left on time and were given menu cards after take off. As the drink of our choice was served with a bag of mixed party snacks we gave our order of our main course dish which was a choice between Veal, Duck Orange, or Codfish in saffron sauce. The food came in a 5 course meal. The bread was wonderfully warm straight from the oven and it was offered 3 times during the meal. My veal was fantastic as was my traveling partners Codfish with crabcakes not to mention the salmon and salad that was served before. After the meal Double Jepordary was shown on the main screen. We were offered the choice to watch a movie of our own on a Sony Watchmans. I choose "The Negotiater". The watchmans were a wonderful change from the normal Personal TV's. During the movie we were given a snack of carrot cake. Before landing we were given another meal of roast beef and prawns. Plus throughout this time the flight attendants were out with drinks and showed professionalism that I have never encountered before. 5/5

Arrival: We arrived 1 hour earlier than expected and because of the delays in England we were the only flight in the International terminal. We were out of customs fast, our bags were off first and we quickly went through customs and put our bags on belt were we would pick them up after the short tram ride to the main terminal. They were on the same belt as a Delta flight which made it a bit crowded. 5/5

Verdict: This has to be one of the best flights I have ever had. I paid much less for this ticket than most other airlines but was amazed at the level of service I recieved , the value of the product recieved was far more supperior than many airlines. This is definately one airline I would recomend to anyone who wants good value for their money.

Total score: 23/25

Hope this helps!

I had a bad experience with them but I must be honete it was in '89 so it is a long time ago!!!
And I know that things changes over the years but anyway I flew from Duesseldorf via Munich to Colombo (Sri Lanka) I never saw before and after this flight, F/A's who where so unfriendly then the one from LTU!!! I hope for them that they changed in their attitude against their customer.

Travlinman, I wish you a good and nice trip to Germany and let us know about your experience with
LTU after your trip. Schoene Gruesse  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

it is a nonstop flight, but with the short runway in Duesseldorf, I guess they think a fuel stop going west is ok, who cares about passengers. I don't know about Orlando, but from MIA, the aircarft continues to Costa Rica, so all these stops add up to the delays!!!!

And SR 103, there is no Business Class anymore, all coach!!!

Travlinman, have a save trip and let us know about your flight , ok?!

Hi Travlinman,

Some additional information concerning the refueling stop: I have read that on the DUS-MIA route they do not sell all the seats in their A 333 to make it non-stop from DUS to MIA. With maximum payload of 335 pax the range of that aircraft would be insufficient.

What a "great" fleet policy !

Have a nice trip and a nice stay in Germany !

Hi KMIA and F+Rouge,
I called LTU to verify about the refueling stop and was told the flight is N/S and the equipment is a 767-300, not the A330 as I was led to believe. LTU said they bring in all of their A330's for maintenance during the spring/summer. Sounded weird, but I'm looking forward to flying the safe and reliable 767.  Smile
