Your Coments On Sabena

Fri Feb 09, 2001 5:11 am

I flew a few times with Sabena and I was always
satisfied with them. Please tell me your experiences with Sabena, good or bad doesn't matter! What do you think about their service and
AC?

Although I haven't flown Sabena, I can tell you that they have a great, young fleet. From what I've heard, their service and comfort isn't quite as good as that of their partner Swissair.

Sabena is momentarily in a very sad phase, perhaps the saddest in the airline's long history. Let's hope they survive!

Though some people will not call me objective because I have posted a lot of things about Sabena here, not in the least the last couple of days in which I was afraid of seeing Sabena dissapear, I think I can say we can be proud of our airline with its new fleet, and as far as I have experienced good service. I am happy that Sabena will go further with its operations, at least for the time being, I hope it will be forever.

I have flown twice with Sabena. JFK-BRU-DUS and vv. (Ok, so four times, whatever) I was perfectly satisfied with the service. It was nothing special, but I was by no means left with a bad impression of the airline. Ok, so it wasn't Singapore Airlines, but I would certainly fly with Sabena again.
Happy Flying.

I've flown them a bit inside Europe, and all I can say that they're quite good. Their service is very friendly, pleasant aircraft, interesting innovative food and overall a nice experience. In fact I had heard a lot of bad stories about SN before i actually flew them the first time, so I was very impressed. I'd definitely fly them again, and, I've had flights on Swissair that weren't as good as those on SN. It'll be a great shame to see them disappear, so let's just keep our fingers crossed!
Go Sabena!

I already posted it twice:
Sabena is one of the top airlines in Europe!
And next sunday I'll fly again with SN. Hope their service is still superb (despite the big problems at the moment...).

I think it was in 1981 and we (wife and I) were part of a group of employees who had won a trip from ATL to the French Riveria. We were booked ATL to Brussels on Belgian Sebena. Usual equipment for that run was a DC-10. This was about the time they were having problems with cargo doors on the DC-10. Some of us were concerned about the aircraft and must have expressed same to the travel agency handling our trip. We were advised a few days before departure that Sabena would be flying a 747. Was a nice trip ,flew on a 707 I think Brussels to Nice and back, then 747 to ATL.

Hello!!
Uhmm Ive never flown on SABENA, ive learned a great deal about this airline through you guys and your postings. My impression on this airline is that they are a very consistent company with years of tradition and excellence to back them up. My mom is from Belgium and she regards SABENA with a slogan young people used at the time (30 some years ago) to refer to SABENA: Such A Bad Experience Never Again! but personally I could never judge this airline without having a flight with them. Sorry if I offended someone.

Kind regards.

I have flown SN on following flights
BRU - MAA Y-class MAA=Madras India
MAA - BRU C-class
BRU - HEL Y-class

the ac makes a very good impression, brandnew, uptodate, clean
the service is rather moderate, the F/As are doing their jobs well but nothing special

I´ve flown SN last year on BRE-BRU-ATH and was quite satisfied with all flights. BRE-BRU was on a DH 8-300, which looked a little bit cramped, but service was ok for such a short flight. BRU-ATH was on A 321, which looked quite new. I especially liked the leather seats in the whole aircraft. Service was again ok, nothing special, but not worse than other airlines like KLM.
Unfortunately, SN will stop serving BRE from mid February which I think is very sad, especially because I heard that load factors have been quite good. But they certainly have their reasons to pull out... Hope to see them back soon!

Last time I flew them was in mid-january from Prague
to Brussels on a ARJ or a BAe146, I can't remember...
Anyway, I was quite amazed because the service was
far different than three years before: F/A's were very
smily and courteous, the inflight service was quite good
with sandwiches, and this belgian touch with offers of chocolates  Smile !!! Anyway, I could say that in the past
SN wasn't at all my cup of tea but they have changed
a lot and they could easily compete with their
neighbouring companies...my main regret ? the ground
personal, especially when checking-in in Brussels...I was
always unlucky to deal with the tiny minority of incompetent and rude ground hostess but I'm sure the majority is very fine !! By the way, I like very much their new uniforms....

I've flown Sabena quite a few times in the past but only short flights. It's quite hard to judge service on 30 minute flights. What I do like about Sabena is the fact that the crew go to great lengths to ensure that you get your connection in the case of a delay.
Being belgian I can say that I'm not really objective about the future of Sabena. I know one thing though: Sabena is a pioneer in many domains of air travel in Europe. It is the second oldest airline (1923) in Europe after LOT. I find it very sad that they are ceasing JNB service after 47 years uninterupted.

Hi all-
SABENA used to be one of my favourite flights. It is
a great pity VIRGIN EXPRESS took over quite a few
flights as most of my internal connecting passengers
were not at all impressed with VEX.
The last 2 months of SN of operation to JNB was
quite bad with delays of up to 6 hours and quite a few
cancelled flights.Had pax on the last incoming JNB
flight who said the service was bad-operated by
CITY BIRD and ac was dirty after having a quick turnaround in BRU
I have flown transantlantic on SN during the 747days
no problems at all and on the 747 out of JNB.I always
found service good and FAs friendly.Internally in Europe
service always good.
Pity they have gone from JNB

Duunno if this is relevant but it's a comment

Apparently their pilots are on strike (FT.COM) i think.
Also they were supposed to be bankcrupt last week but somehow they've pulled through.
Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

Sabena always reminds me of that old joke that it's name was an acronym for "Such a bad experience, never again", but having flown Sabena from Montreal (Mirabel) to Brussels some 15 years ago, I'd have to say that someone just had a bright idea to turn the name into an undeserved insult. I have no complaints about Sabena.
