DVT Conference, Sydney - SIA Excluded

DVT conference in Sydney - SIA excluded!!
Does anyone know why?

Here's the small and not enough detail article and before someone says that I've written this article, I haven't

1334 [Dow Jones] Qantas (QAN) public relations won't be helped by Singapore Airlines (Singapore: SIAL.SI - news) spokesman telling Dow Jones Newswires it's excluded from 1st global summit in Sydney today on the life-threatening "economy class syndrome," adding that he's "puzzled by the move." Summit on deep-vein thrombosis organized by Griffith University, which is conducting a joint study with SIA rival Qantas. (AYC)

Hm... let's see...

maybe an issue of competition? QANTAS and SIA in a room together... eeks what a horror that would be... they both hate each others guts, so it's not surprising... besides SIA seems to be handling the DVT problem quite well on their own...  Insane

On a totally different note the Singapore Airlines staff I've dealt with have been kind of rude to me... I called to ask about getting a tour of an aircraft for our gathering at SFO a week from tomorrow... the person was like "oh i'm sorry we don't do that bye" and then hung up... not the best impression on me...

They are a secretive organisation however they should perk up their normal PR and shouldn't be so "pompous"?

ANyway, I still love them, through thick and thin, and new internet roll outs

I think you may have your information a little back to front. This summit was very small (one room and about 15 people) and it was for the benifit of Australias airline industry. It had our Federal Health minister and other high ranking people in the Australian Government so it would be considered inapropriate to allow a foreign airline such as Singapore Airlines into this meeting.
I hope this answers your question.

Well. Hmm... why don't they study and help the world? One study benifits everyone.

why isnt this argument about all of the other world airlines being excluded? What makes SIA so special as to not be excluded.

Jeez.

Who gives a fat rat's clacker if Singapore Airlines, Air Tchad and Falkland Islands Government Air Services were excluded.

Basically what this conference was, was a meeting between the Federal Ministers and representatives of Australia's airlines.

OK Singapore_Air.....next time SQ meets the Singapore Government body which is responsible for negotiating the bilateral relations between Singapore and China, you'll make sure that Ansett is invited along to those meetings.

Or, how about next time SQ want's to push the NZ government for a larger stake in NZ, we'll make sure that QF is invited as well?

In short, this meeting had nothing to do with SQ......the Australian government is not answerable to SQ and SQ is not answerable to the Australian government (in the same way which AN and QF are)...so why should they be invited to any meeting?

The reason that I asked why SIA is excluded was

1) It was in the article
2) SIA is my fav airline

Brissie_Lions: THank you I think you have made yourself quite clear now. Thank you. However, I am displeased of your tone.

The great almighty SIA leaves the room unsatisfied that his airlines presence was not the voice of reason, a diamond in the rough, or the only one with any intelligence. (joke)
