Old A/C: Real Or Appearance?

Sat Feb 10, 2001 10:36 am

Hey Everyone
Today I saw an Alitalia 742, and damn did it look old! I was just wondering, since Ive heard lots of bad things about AZ if that was just maintenance and cleanliness lack, or if they really are so old?
Thanks...

In the case of the 742, it's both.

Hello,
I am afraid to disappoint you but Alitalia has one of the highest level of safety thanks to their very good maintenance.
That 747 is pretty old, having being delivered between 1980 and 1985 but it will be withdrawn within 2 years with the arrival of the first B777s.

Ciao

Paint and polish have little to do with the safety of the aircraft. The cleanest planes I have ever seen belonged to Valujet.
This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.
