How Many DC-3s Still Up In The Air? Please Respond

Sat Feb 10, 2001 12:48 pm

I am hoping to get a couple answers, my friend and i were in a dispute on about how many DC-3s are still flying, he said 500 or so, or about 1 out of every 4-5 built. I said maybe 150-200, so what is it really? can anyone help out?

Hello...
I read in a recent issue of Pacific Flyer that about 400 or so, worldwide, are still flyable. Only thing that will replace a DC-3, is another DC-3.  Wink/being sarcastic Regards.

I think the article said "flying".
There are a number of DC-3 still in existance, but not "flyable". Mostly museum pieces. There's a book I highly recommend on DC-3 survivors.
It's "Douglas DC-3 Survivors" by Arthur Pearcy.
Aston Publications Ltd....printed in Great Britain.
Actually the book is a two-volume set. Hope this help.
