Airlines/Manufacturers Investing In Each Other?

Sun Feb 11, 2001 5:41 am

I was thinking, why dont airlines inverst in aircraft manyfacturers and vice versa? For instance why doesnt American invest in Boeing so they get better deals on aircraft? or the other way around?

They would be prevented in the US because of anti-trust (anti-monopoly) laws. For precisely the reason you stated (airline gets better deal on aircraft, etc), it would not be allowed.

As a matter of fact, many years ago Boeing was forced to give up its ownership in United Airlines specifically due to the anti-trust laws.

Hi,

I understand that Boeing has close to a 9% stake in Air Tran.
