Smart Move!

Mon Feb 12, 2001 2:28 pm

Let me ask you a question.

If your at the airport spotting and you get bored, what do you do ?

a) Go home

b) Talk to your friends

c) Start throwing rocks at the airport fence !!

Well option three is what a couple of so called `spotters' did at CLK yesterday. The result was that 3 (three) van loads of police arrived and spent about 30 minutes taking their ID's and checking their bags etc. Even one of the senior officers was called out.

This may have been fun for them but if this area is now closed to the public my friends and I, not to mention thousands of fishermen are going to get very pissed.

So I would like to say a big thanks for those guys and I hope this area near 25R does not get closed off !!

These guys may only want the `PERFECT' photo but its no reason to hurt the hobby for others.

That is EXTREMELY stupid....for goodness' sake do people think before they act these days...

I'm getting pretty sick of some inconsiderate hong kong people. Usually, everyone's pretty civilized, but theres always just a few who likes to ruin it for everyone else.

If they close off that area, I'm gonna wanna know who these SOB's are.

I completely agree, these guys were being immature idiots, and if the authorities clamp down on what is otherwise an innocent hobby, I will be rather eff-ing pissed off to say the least.

It reminds me of the times spotters from Manchester used to visit and trash the areas at Kai Tak, leaving rubbish everywhere, using walls as public toilets and making the authorities not like us very much. I realise that not all Manchester spotters are like that, but there are some of you out there that act like hooligans and now you have made a name for yourselves.

Oh oh oh, at AMS we once had the situation some environmental activists managed to get on a KLM 767 (not in but on.. they were all sitting on top of the fuselage) by walking onto the pier from the airport terrace, result: 1,5 years long the terrace had been closed.

Hi Hkgspotter1,

I totally, completely agree with you.
Afraid of that the spot will be closed or be resticted.
I don't like to see or talk with those "professional photographers" but not really like airplanes.
Get their "ideal" shots is their dream. Yes, I cannot stop them or discuss about them on the board. But after the case happen on yesterday(I had be phoned at 1900hrs). I felt.....upset why those guy chose the option "c"--Start throwing rocks at the airport fence !!

Anyway, hope them can behave themselves!!

But let me tell you, If this does get closed of I will find out their names and let you know !

CX Flyboy, Oh yes the good old days of the trips from Manchester. According to most Hong Kong Spotters (The real ones) they also cut the holes in the airport fence.

One word can only describe those so-called spotters who threw rocks: IDIOTS.

I back the authorities' move, but still it's too cruel to other genuine spotters to close the area off completely. You should complain to the airport or police people explaining politely the situation.

My GOD...

How come the 3 guys are so stupid!!??

I think AA will closed that area because they like to ban aviation fans in HK.. Before 25R was opened.. We walked on the grass near 25L.. But they.. still asked us to go away without a reasonable reason.. Now.. They know that there is a great spotting area next to 25R.. So they will close it and let us (aviation fans) to get nowhere to take photos..

Kasing: Ok, I stabbed you with a kife. Yet I was not arrested, so I did nothing wrong. Is this what you are saying??

Daryl, Alan and Colin, I think we really should contact the airport authorities explaining the whole situlation. If the place gets shut down, it will be a great loss to us spotters considering the already lack of places for photography at CLK.

Kasing,

A situation like this does not need people to know what was said. People saw the idiots throwing rocks at the fence. What could the excuse possibly be to make it ok??? Perhaps they were employed by someone to test airport security? Perhaps they saw a very poisonous snake climbing up the fence? There is no excuse. Who cares what was said!

Actually, if the guys did not throw rock to the fences, it is no way to arrest them. Think what the HKG people threw rocks in Kwun Tong Pier during spotting. Maybe some of the HKG spotters did throw.

Police would arrest the suspect if they get sufficient proof - at least witness and the CCTV tape. The police and security could watch the tape immediately. But the guys are free to go after the tape was reviewed that moment (I think because the communicate through mobile phone).

Think about the situation of that location. There is a mechanical facilities building near and access is a must to that building. Don't be too serious since there were some interactions between spotters and securities before on various location in HKG.

Kasing,
As I know and seem that. You are one of the member of the club which those three guys joined?
As I said before, either in "airliners.net" or "world-airliners.com".
We cannot judge the case before the file closed by the lawcourt or related department. Otherwise, we are "depising court"! Illegal !!!!!!

Just like CX flyboy said "Perhaps they were employed by someone to test airport security? Perhaps they saw a very poisonous snake climbing up the fence? There is no excuse. Who cares what was said!"
Anyway, if the file of the case closed.
I can POST the photo up to the board.
Maybe we can judge then what it was happen. Smile

"a plane on the ground is a mere car" Yes! I remember one of the caption shown under their upload.

Found that those three guys are "Kasing", "A. Mok" and a girl.
Serious!!!
Not a lie.

I will post the photo after the lawcourt/police closed the file of the case.

Well i think throwing stone into the sea from Kwun Tong pier is DIFFERENT from throw rocks at the fence!
People throw rocks to the sea BUT NOT TO AIRCRAFT OR AIRPORT! Especially from a Aviation lover! WHAT IS THE POINT? You love planes and the airport so you just destroy it? how about bomb it and become FBI top-ten most wanted? IDIOT!

Dear Alan,

YES YOU CAN POST THOSE PHOTOs! You are not making comments to the case while you posting those photos.
and Alan, if you really think mr. Kasing did such a thing, you can just call the police with those photos.
Those photo can be evidences to proof what you SERIOUSLY said! IT would help the police to find out the suspect who did it.

If I threw rock to the fences and they must have their CCTV video tape as their proof. As I listen to their conversations, not the sensors near us are activated.

As a normal practice, check ID is a "normal" procedure since the police need to know you identy.

They saw the tape and they have no further action.

Anyway, I need to share what I have done yesterday.

1. At about 3:30pm,we threw rocks for fun and not toward the fence. (As I mention, it is free to throw - think you are in the beach... no need to say more).

2. Airport Security approached us at 3:50pm

3. Police arrived at about 3:55pm. Of course they need to do their "normal".

4. Police and Securities called back to console (control) to see the CCTV record and they collected info in vicinity.

5. Since explosive matters (near chinese near) are a little common in villages in Hong Kong (of course illegel), all the bags were opened and there was NO SEARCHING by police. Only suspect would be searched by police.

6. They have no findings on the CCTV tape and there is no witness on this situation and we were free to go on 4:30pm.

I need to share what was happened yesterday since a lot of guys were trying to guest what happen in that case and they think a little bit negative. I need to say I am sorry if I make any inconvenience to anybody. But I indeed to say there is NO ATTACH ON FENCE.

Re. Alan
I think we all care about the spotting locations in HKG and please be patient since there is no rock tocuhing the fence and Gordon was nearby and you may ask him for further info. Please do not make any more guests since you were not in that sitaution. Of course it is welcomed to post any photo related to this situation, maybe more than 10 policemens around the spotting location with MP5 machine guns. If you friends (Daryl, Gordon and someone I don't know) want to be witness, they are all welcome and see what is the meaning of "depising court" you mentioned. Prosecution is the duty of Security of Justice or his/her representatives. You are welcomed to be witness if you see that situation and the suspects are prosected.

RE. SKYBUTT
If you think it is shame, show the proof. Not just say...... I think you would like to see someone is prosecuted in front of you. I recommend you to ask you teachers about the statutory procedure on arrest.

And I will not response to this post anymore since I have presented all the thing. Once again, I apologise for any inconvenience cause to anyboyd!

Of course, enjoy spotting!

Regards,

Ka-sing Down,

I don't think the police need proof, there are plenty of security cameras everywhere and I am sure that they will have this on film already.....I wasn't there, but surely this is the reason the police knew about it anyway.

Mr Kasing,
Shame....you get what it means?
OK, you are saying that you are just throwing rocks LEGALLY at the airport area, then you must have been throwing boulders for activating several police to do the NORMAL.....WOW, what a sight!! I wish I was there seeing you crack the boulders!! I will throw stones at the beach, but not really at the airport. Throwing is alright, but not stupid enough to let the police come and tell you to stop.
If the police are really doing the normal, do they need to call for assistance holding mp5's? If you say yes, then the police can be fired for doing nothing after their 3:15 teabreak.
I assume that you don't really know what shame means, after you being warned and alerting all of us that the place might be closed because of you idiots. I am sorry for saying that you are shameful for making all the trouble. Go and throw the rocks all you want. Its FREE and LEGAL, Mr Kasing.
I am not too familiar with the prosecuting progress, but I am sure the police will come when there is trouble. Maybe somebody called the police when they saw you throwing rocks...HAHA...check it out.

"Them" not "us". Maybe the client(s) don't want we talk such much on "them".
But our discussion or we are very mind if the spot will be closed offically by Airport Authority Pissed. Serious! HKAA so stupid, every one know.

Let's back to the MP5's topic.
Heard that firstly was only the AA guard appear.
And they have made a negotiation with the guard before the police came.
Note that the HKAA guard is not police.
Anyway, we just talk about the spot those "photographers" disliked.
Where called no background or rolling car etc.

I think the word Idiot just hit the nail on the head.

Mr. Down, If you think that its OK to throw rocks in view of airport security and the CCTV then thats fine by me but go do it at the HK Bank vault in Kowloon bay not at the Airport.

Alan, is correct. You guys are photographers, and I'm sure you are good ones but you are not avaition fans.

For example.

The day after the SQ 744 crashed two SQ A310's diverted to HKG due to bad weather. One was the crash team and the other a normal flight. Two of the `fantastic' members jumped of the bus at Heaco, ran to the fence to take photos of a departing A310, and did not even look at the Lauda 777 landing behind them !!

For those of you that don't know Lauda do not fly to Hong Kong and this only came to go to Haeco.

Just for the record the Airport security would not allow them to take photos at the fence and had to watch
them the whole time from a van parked on the road.

Mr, Down if you and your members keep this up you can start doing sunset photos with birds as none of us will be able to spot at CLK.

Come to think of it why not take photos of cars as remember when a plane is on the ground its just a car !!

Kasing,

Who cares whether the police are charging you with anything or not? If you cause trouble, it doesn't matter whether it is illegal or not, the AA could still shut the area. They are not obligated to have that area open. If anyone abuses it (legal or not) then it could be shut. If so, you will not be very popular with spotters around the world. Think, if you throw rocks every week (even if it is not illegal) do you think the AA would still let us go there? I don't think so.

You had better not do this again!

If there was no stone attacked the fence.
I don't believe the guard have came.
Isn't this? Or all guard and policemen included 6 with the MP5 gun were so bored??
Explain again for their own viewpoint of the situation just not arrested.
I think record the ID (a must do for police when checking it) has reserved the right to charge them.
Anyway, spotting just like fishing, sometimes interesting and exciting but sometimes boring.
But avaition enthusiast will not be destroy any public facility of the airport, right?
hkgspotter1, you're right! Spotting to cars is more suitable for them. At lease no guard or police will stop them in the street or somewhere in Hong Kong.

Well, not really. Police will call them off if they block the roads or throw rocks at cars~

Actually throwing rocks isn't a big deal....i also do that( Not at the airport area). Only without bothering the AA officers, then it isn't a problem. If they come after you and stop you, then stop. They tell you to shut up, then shut up. No big deal.

LATEST NEWS !!

Today I was back at that area and the works are near by always had a fence around it. Today the fence has been extended and the height doubled. Now you can no longer read the reg's of aircraft landing on 25L. I hope this is not the start of a fence that will close off the area.

All the barb wire from the original fence has just been thrown onto the spotting location as if it won't be open to the public and therefore no need to take it away.

Lets pray that this is not what is happening.

This is the reason why spotting areas at major international airports are getting harder to come by! Meatheads with nothing better to do start throwing things at aircraft or worse, jump the fence for fun are the reason why the airport authorities close spotting areas and patrol areas near runways. They give aeroplane spotters a bad name and it is unfair to those of us who enjoy the hobby of spotting and photographing safely and lawfully.
