Haven't quite figured out where they are going yet, but there are NO flights landing at AUS due to heavy fog. From listening to my scanner I've only heard one flight attempt a landing but had to abort the attempt due to not being able to see the runway (Southwest). Runway 17-R (the long one) is closed due to the lighting system being down. There have been a couple departures from 17-L, an ABX DC-8 and a FedEx MD-10. The fog is so heavy that from my normal spotting location I can't even see the runway, much less the planes on the runway. Can hear them, but can't see them. I've never known a heavy to take off from 17-L (not saying it hasn't happend, just not a normal event). Tower is reporting an RVR of 800. The FedEx pilot reported it clear above 1000' for as far as they could see.

This is what I see on a clear day. Today I can't even make out where the runway is. I can barely make out the flashing strobes at the approach end of 17-L.
I don't ever remember seeing fog this bad in the 6 years I've lived in Austin.
