2001/2/14 Last UA Flight Between ORD-HNL

It's kind of sad to see UA pulling out ORD-HNL.

Why didn't UA using 772 on this route? since 772 is supposed to replace DC10's route.

The reason UA is not using a 777 on this route is because the Pilots Union would not allow it. The pilots would need to have a rest area, and UA does not want to convert the 25XX series 777s.

UA was not making a lot of money on this route. It is easier to route people through SFO or LAX to go to Hawaii.

Yes,767 was right-UA's pilot union has restrictions on 2-man flight crew hours on domestic flights.ORD-HNL must be over thier limit.A side note I'm flying UA ROC-LHI on 3.2.-can't wait-I need some warm weather!!I'm sick of the winter.I'm connecting thru ORD & LAX-look for some pic's next month.

p.s. I'll miss those -10's! I should have got more pic's when I was there in October

I am just making an observation here and it may be wrong but its just my guess. In my opinion AA sure is making out quite well from the other airlines retiring their trijets, for example AA used to compete DFW-HNL with DL, but DL has (or will be) pulling the DFW-HNL route and also AA competed with UA on the ORD-HNL but not anymore after tommorrow. By the way, who carries the most people to Hawaii of the US airlines? Is it AA or UA? Thanks

I believe that most passengers take charters to hawaii. SkyService, Hawaiian, ect. ORD-HNL was not that profitable for United becasue all of the flights were full of people using their FF miles.

UA has been Hawaii's largest carrier to the mainland for over 50 years.

Flight 43 isn't being discontinued, it is being suspended. Once the pilot contract is amended allowing reliever crews on domestic flights, flight 43 will restart, most likely with a 777, from what I've heard.
