JI - AA FQ Agreement

Thu Feb 15, 2001 7:29 am

AA has decided to discontinue its FQ agreement with JI. What will this do to JI? They do have a strong following here in RDU, but a big part of their sucess has been the FQ agreement. Maybe they should team up with YX or Frontier for countrywide service.

First, AA would take back most of the gates it currently leases to Midway and probably kick them out of AA's terminal(when AA had a hub at RDU) and AA might grow out of RDU again. If AA does get DCAir, then most likely JI would leave, if AA doesnt get DCAir, then JI will most likely stay with AA.

The future of the marketing agreement is not up to AA but up to the APA. The APA has, however, already said that there is no interest in permitting AA to extend the marketing relationship with Midway.

The AA-JI gate lease is until 2013, I don't think AA could break that agreement. And don't think it would be in their best interest. What would a JI FQ membership look like, miles, segments, etc.?

I think it is time for Midway to establish their own program. It may be expensive, but Midway is growing, so it is time to bite the bullet. As it stands now, I can't even accrue or redeem AAdvantage miles on the JI routes that I fly most (RDU-SDF and RDU-IND), so I am happy about the change.
