UPSPilot I Have A Question

Thu Apr 22, 1999 11:30 am

The question on the 727 Tay conversion is far enough back that I put a new post up for this question.

You stated that all of UPS's 727's, save nine have the Tay engines. I am not up to speed on their fleet but my understanding is that most of the fleet are -100's, but yall do have some -200's too.

It was also my understanding that the Tay conversion was only available on the -100.

Are the nine aircraft without the Tay's -200's or where they certified also for the Tay engines? I remember in an old copy of Airways that there was a story about UPS and there where a couple shots with what appear to be -200's with extended tailpipes, Unfortunatly my Ex-girlfriend ended up with it so I can't reference it to get a page number for you.

Of course I could also be completly off my rocker about UPS flying -200's too.

L-188,
I was kinda half a wake and half asleep yesterday when I posted. I posted some wrong information sorry.
UPS modified 51 727-100's not 200's as I posted and it cost over $500 million to do the retros to the 727-100. They hushkitted 7 727-200's to make them stage 3 compliant. There was an 18% savings in fuel burn over the JT-8d-7. Also there was a 70% reduction in the area that was affected by noise on take off it went from 22 square miles to 6.5 square miles and a 22% decrease in emissions.
There is a total of 8 727-200's flying for UPS. N208up-N215up.
It's amazing how coffee can clear cob webs out of my head!
G'day

Thanks. I was wondering if I was getting enough caffine when I saw your post too. Know the feeling.

I didn't think the Tay conversions where approved on the -200 series.
