VirginBlue Expands & Gets B737-800's

Sun Feb 18, 2001 1:35 pm

From Fridays Australian Newspaper.

VirginBlue is expanding its services after placing 4 additional NG B737's suited for long-haual routes such as Perth.
The order of 182-seat Boeing 737-800's is in addition to an order for smaller B737-700's due for delivery this year.

It is understood the -800's will be fitted with more comfortable seats for trans-Tasman or transcontinental flying.

The first two B737-700's arrive in April & June. Then more arrive starting October. The first -800 will arrive in November.
Although Virgin has not specified where it will fly it's new jets, it is understood that the first arrivals will be foicused on the east-coast & Adelaide routes. Brett godfrey stated that Perth would not be added until at least the second half of this year. Townsville was added on Thursday.

I believe also that VirginBlue have a very cosy relationship with another major (competitor) airline........Things may change in the future??????????

RE: VirginBlue Expands & Gets B737-800's

It is encouraging that they are ordering new airplanes. I just flew on one of their 737-400 from syd to bne a day ago and i must say their aircraft need extensive rehauls. Firstly the passengers were packed in like sardines with barely enough space between rows to get to your seat. Secondly, the decor was very tired and needing revamping. Thirdly, the flight was delayed ?mechanical probs. On the positive side their flight attendants were generally well groomed and the uniforms funky. Having flown on Impulse Airlines before on their brand new B717 (quiet, clean, leg room!!!) last year to melbourne and back, Virginblue had better get newer planes and give more leg room or Impulse will win out in the long run. VirginBlue a lot of hype but not delivering.
