(San Francisco-AP) -- San Francisco International Airport could soon be the first airport in the world to have every bag on international flights X-rayed and matched to a passenger.
Airport security personnel say S-F-O is installing and testing a state-of-the-art security system.

It's so comprehensive that the federal government and airports around the world are watching to see how well it works.

For international flights, special microchip tags will only allow bags on planes when their owners are aboard.

The airport installed sophisticated anti-terrorism equipment and procedures when it decided to build the new international terminal.

Officials say the new security system should be in place by this summer.

It sounds like a plan, but couldn't they have had a trial run at a less congested airport? Since it's an all new-technology, it would have made sense to try it out at a smaller airport and work out any kinks. I guess they're confident in the technology. I hope it doesn't cause any unnecessary delays.

Watewate... good point. Just watch, it will break down and completely screw up the world's seventh busiest airport. The way things have been going around here, it wouldn't surprise me a bit.

this musty cost quite a lot, transimitter on pax, receiver on bag or vice versa
and "evil terrorist" might slip that receiver in another pax pocket so this would be useless
