What Do You Think About The KLM Colorscheme?

Fri Feb 23, 2001 5:09 pm

Research: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, one of the oldest still flying airlines in the world, has built up a good reputation in matter of consistent use of its corporate identity. Most of the Dutch like the skyblue/darkblue/white KLM livery due it is their home carrier. What do you, as foreigner, think about the KLM colorscheme. Thank you for your honest reply in advance.

I like the KLM scheme. The color is original and unique. As a challenge I created a fantasy scheme for KLM several months ago. I decided to take a risk and go with all new colors and a more modern font. The logo is slightly altered aswell. Well I guess it would just be easier to just show it. Here's a link. Enjoy!

Thats a nice and tasteful redesign of the KLM-livery. I have to say that apart from still needed finetuning of the logo its even very realistic to expect something like this from KLM. Nice Job!

KLMs livery is still one of the best in Europe, today the home of boring liveries. But I think its time for an update like the one RyeFly did.
For example: Korean Airs livery is the most similar to the one of KLM and I like the shades of blue more there. The use of colour is more subtle, the blue lighter, friendlier, the silver stripe looks nice compared to the heavy dark blue.

Hollands national colour is orange. I just thought what if KLM changes to this more unique colour, creating a modernized "Braniff"-look. I know many people don´t like orange. But blue is the most common in aviation and I´m always happy to see airlines like Northwest or Virgin brave enough not to use the sunny sky´s colour. I don´t mean adding just some orange, because orange AND blue together is the worst colour combination I can think of, I mean a radical change to "Oranje", like the football team.

I think KLMs livery is classic. It has worked well and everyone seems to like it, so why change it? Those blue tones are now synonymours with KLM. A shame they will no longer be seen in Australia anymore.

RyeFly, nice job indeed!

I think KLM's livery is very classic and good-looking, it could however need an update exactly the way RyeFly designed it.

RE: Norbert, Orange! Yes!

Goodmorning Norbert,

Orange! That's is a spectacular colour. We are proud to tell you that we are finalising the new colourscheme for Air Holland. The airline will take its decission today which design of us will be the first to be implemented. The first aircraft with a new Air Holland paintscheme will be the DC10. For the two other Air Holland aircraft (B757-200's (one will be added extra in April)) the company will use totally different paintscheme designs (also from Lila Design Aviation). About your color suggestion: please follow the airline news because what we have designed for Air Holland will satisfied your thoughts 100%... Spectacular!! According our conditions we are not yet allowed to show you our design. Within 5 weeks the DC10 will be painted at Miami before it flies to Amsterdam. Thanks for your reply and we will come back to your illustrations very quickly.

Kind regards,

Beautiful, I especially like the lightened KLM acronym which was Navy Blue in the original scheme on the tail, whoever designed the livery had great vision as its timeless others in the category are Thai Airways, Air France, Lufthansa and Pan Am,RyeFly design is good too but minor changes would make it more attractive, the White tail should stay, to update the present livery i think the KLM logo should be modified using softer Fonts and the Blue band should be placed below the cabin windows, a lighter shade of Blue for the band or perhaps changing its colour to the Metallic Grey like in their UK subsidiary would look better Smile

well, seems that i´m the only one who doesn´t like the KL livery very much, sorry, folks.  Wink/being sarcastic
it´s mainly because of the light blue covering the upper part of the fuselage.
i´m not necessarily a fan of totally white fuselages, but in my opinion, a light blue colors on half of the fuselage doesn´t fit at all. that´s why i dislike the KE livery as well. in addition, i agree with airmale that they could enhance or modirfy their entire logo.
i think they should make more use of the darker blue in the livery, use a little more white and skip this tone of grey.
this light tone of grey and blue deliver me the impression of a very old and "dirty" (no offence!!!) livery.
perhaps they could fill in some thin red stripes along the fuselage or somewhere else, representing the red in the national flag.

daniel

IIRC KLM's corporate identity is one of the first ones to be created, anywhere in any industry. To be one of those that are still in use today is even more admirable.

So that's a very cool thing  Big thumbs up

I like the colors RyeFly used... the current KLM font can stick really  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I think the KLM livery is great! One of the best ever.
But I think they should make a little more modern redesign.
American Airlines should do that too even though their livery is one of the best also.

Ryefly,
Your scheme is great!!!

I personally think that it is fantasic. It makes the airline unique. It is great that KLM has not kept changing their colours every few years like some airlines.

I have always thought that KLM needs a change. In fact they even need a logo ! Yes, the airline has built a name and a reputation over the years. Unlike other airlines KLM can boast to be the Oldest (or very close) airline in the world. With that kind of reputation they can afford to do a lot without serious consequences. They will certainly get a reaction, which in my opinion will be largely favorable, depending of course what scheme they will adopt. But unless they do what BA has done ...................

Sorry Guys

Sat Feb 24, 2001 5:42 am

At the request from the photographers I had to take down my site along with the KLM fantasy scheme. I am trying to see what I can do about the future and perhaps will be able to put them back up. I just wanted to thank everyone who visited and enjoyed the fantasy schemes. I really enjoy doing it as a hobby and I know many people like them. Sorry.
