Sat Feb 24, 2001 5:11 am

Im not sure which is the widest widebody. Could it be the B747 or the IL86/96 or what? Anybody know?

AFAIK, 747 followed by 777 and DC10/MD11 (or is 1011 wider?). I think Il86/96 is the next. A380 will be the widest when it is built.

As far as I know they come in following order:

A380,
B747,
L1011,
B777,
Il 86/96,
DC-10/MD-11,
A300/310/330/340,
B767.

I'm sure (unless I see the exact numbers) DC10/MD11 is wider than Il86/96. I flew in 3-4-3 MD11 (OH-LGA, the first one in airline service), and it was all right, hardly different from 2-5-2 OH-LGB. But from my Il86 experience (4 flights, all 3-3-3) it seemed to be no space for 10th seat. Again, it may be subjective, so may be somebody provides with the numbers...

Sorry 'bout the little bug.

You're right,RIX,DC-10/MD-11 have a slightly larger fuselage cross-section with 5.74m compared to the 5.66m of the Il-86/96.

Contrary to popular belief, the A380 does not have the widest fuselage. The A380 will be in a 2-4-2 Y class configuration. The 747, 777, DC-10, MD-11, IL86, L1011, and the IL96 are all wider than the A380.

Cba, your tottally wrong...the a380 will be same or slitly wider then the 747 or other widebodies outhere and it's seating plane is 3-4-3. you where probably thinking about the upper deck class which it will be 2-4-2 in Y class. unlike like the 747 which is 2-2 or 3-3 ..........

Well, Cba, you are half-right.

The UPPER deck of the A380 will have the classic Airbus 2-4-2 layout in economy, but on the main deck, an accomodation of 3-4-3 will be fitted. I saw a cutaway drawing of this jet at Paris Airport in Air France livery and saw these configurations. I'm sure they're somewhere at airbus.com as well.

The 747 is the largest. The A380 will be larger.

Remember, seats on the 380 have separate armrests and this are wider than normal economy seats. I hope the day comes soon I can ride one of these beasts!!
