Boeing Certified For Sale To CIS Airlines.

Sat Feb 24, 2001 7:15 am

I've noticed that the B717 is certified for sales to the Airlines in the former Sovjet Union. I suppose there is a big market. A lot of the former Russian Aeroflot aircraft are in derelict conditions. And I don't believe that the Russian manufacturers are ready with a plane of their one for this market.
Should this be the way to survive the B717 after the problems with TWA. They ordered a lot of them. Maybe Boeing will sell a lot of them to the countries around Russia. I hope so for them, because the B717 is more than an upgraded DC-9 in my opinion.

Yes, Turkmenistan Airlines, which already operates the 737-300 and 757-200 has a few 717s on order. Actually Tupolev does have something that can compete against the 717, its the Tu-334. It looks alot like the 717, same engine configuration, 100 seater. It shares the same fusulage with the Tu-204. Suprisingly, both aircraft have similar performance:
Tu-334: 1,080nm
Tu-334-100D (Has this been developed): 2,213nm

717:1,375nm
717-200HGW: 1,812nm

The Best, Tom
