Delta L-1011 Last Flight - July 31, 2001

Sun Feb 25, 2001 1:30 am

Delta Air Lines retired N1731D (msn 1200) to Tucson (not Victorville) on January 31. The aircraft was destined for Orient Thai, but it seems likely that the sale was delayed. Delta has 10 TriStars remaining, and all are to be retired within the next five months: two in March, one in May, two in June, and the last five all in July. N728DA (msn 1173) will have the honor of flying the last revenue TriStar flight scheduled for July 31, which is ironic, as this example is the oldest TriStar remaining in operation with the airline.

Now, we know that the route will be ATL-MCO, but what flight will it be? There are currently 2 TriStar roundtrips on that route. Any word?

You're forgetting PBI with our two L1011 flights.

As a sidebar to your post, there are also quite a few crewmembers retiring from DL when the tristar retires. You can bet that there is a lot of clamboring for bragging rights as to the last captain or crewmember to fly the last revenue flight. As for beautiful aircraft...I guess you haven't seen N728DA up close recently. This plane needs a lot of touch up paint.

Here she is....will be sad to see her go. ATL-MCO can't be the last flight (if i read that correctly). What will be the last flight? Obviously it would end in ATL....just makes sense. I'm going to try and get on that flight....

When did the Tri-Star's enter the Delta fleet? What was their FIRST revenue flight? How many did they have in their fleet at their peak?

You know what, I'm making a trip to Fort Myers at the end of July, I think I will endure that drive up to Orlando to get on the last US major scheduled L1011 service. She's a beautiful bird. It will be sad to see her go.

Here's a picture describing the state of passenger L1011 service in the world.

Appearently all schedules printed online aren't changed after July.......so basically the last flight wouldn't be changed until next month.

DeltaAir, that makes sense.

I was looking through ORD flight schedules since my family is going there towards the end of July, and I found flight 1261 which arrives ATL at 1036 PM on July 31. It is a tristar from ORD. Maybe this is the last DL tristar flight?

Somebody please tell me so I know if it is worth the $300 more.

I would also be interested in flying on the last Tristar flight if I can afford it.

I really hope to be on the last flight - will it be from ORD? If anyone can get the precise details for the actual rock-bottom no-questions-asked last flight OR for the last flight from ORD please let me know! THe latest timetable I have is out of date. It would be really neat if we could have a sort of meeting for the last flight - I really wanna' be there when the fire trucks do their thing (if they're gonna' do it).

I will miss the Delta L-1011-500.

I flew on there L-1011s once between LAX - ATL in 1989.
It was a great flight.

Actually, the CalWings project is delayed until March 2002 - check out out website at http://www.celticairways.com/ for further information.

As you know, our group already owns one L1011 which is to be returned to service and leased to a Latin American client; and we're also in the process of finalising the acquisition of several more aircraft (but not from Delta).

AS an old buddy of mine puts it, we're eating that elephant one bite at a time...! Big grin Big grin Big grin

DeltaAir - Which Flight Is The Last One?

Wed Feb 28, 2001 5:27 am

I suppose I could look at the scheds and try to figure it out, but which of those three flights you listed is the last one, being operated by N728DL? DL may get a ticket out of me! Also, what other two ships will be operating that day? Many thanks for posting this news.

One thing I will remember about flying a Delta L-1011 was that it was my first flight on a wide-body jet from MCO to ATL in May 1999.

RE: DL L-1011s Thru 2002?

Wed Feb 28, 2001 6:31 am

This may be nothing more than another turn of the rumor mill, but-
I spoke with some DL pilots the other day at work and they said the L10 won't be retired this summer after all. According to them DL is going to keep a few of them flying into 2002. Not sure why but maybe because some of DL's long distance domestic routes (foremost ATL-HNL) cannot be operated by the 767-400s until they get crew rest mods.
I will peruse the Delta res computers and keep an ear out for any other info.

Long live the Trisaurus!!!
