Is United Giving Up Too Much?

Sun Feb 25, 2001 9:09 am

I just read an article saying that United had conceeded so much to get the merger through, that it wasn't even truly competitive with the new AA/TWA/US air deal. Is United to concerned with its own merger? Will AA overtake United as No. 1?

From what I've heard, there is a clause in the deal between AA and UA on the fleet swaps that precludes AA from eclipsing UA, and if they do, UA gets to take back 757s... as it goes, if the deals go through as written, UA will be slightly bigger than AA.

These deals should be blocked, especially the United/US one. They will have a monopoly:

UAL Hubs:
- LAX
- SFO
- DEN
- ORD
- IAD

US Hubs:
- PHL
- CLT
- PIT

They will have a monoply in the eastern USA.
