Okay...

I flew Air France ATL-CDG and v.v. over Christmas 2000.
I was on a 777 to CDG and an A343 from CDG, in Tempo by the way. Here is what I mean when I say ................

Good Food....
Both flights the food was excellent, including the snack they served before arriving in ATL on the way back. On the flight to, we left at 955 pm and they served us a beef and noodles dish with a side of some type of fish(I don't know what though.). The dessert was Cream Puffs, I guess, layered with a thick rich chocolate sauce.
The flight back I specifically remember the dessert of our Lunch, which was an Apricot pie or tort. The snack that we were served later on consisted of roastbeef and potato salad. Using the bread they give out, which I thought was a nice touch, I made myself a type of cold roast beef sandwich. It was very good.

Good entertainment........
I especially mean this on the 777 flight to Paris. The PTVs......WOW. I spent the whole 8 hour flight playing the video games, especially Othello, although I had no clue as to what the hell I was supposed to be doing. I also watched 'Gone In 60 Seconds' for a while too.
On the flight back I wasn't as lucky and was stuck on one of their A343s withough PTVs. It was a boring flight, but they did show a good documentary on a national park in Marituis(sp?). Anyways, the clouds and water that I saw for 7 hours made up for it.  Insane

Good fleet.......
I like Air France's mix of Boeing and Airbus products in both their shorthaul and longhaul fleets. It was on this trip that I got to fly on 2 aircraft that I have never been on before; the 777 and A340. Both were very comfortable and well kept aircraft.

Good crews......
The crews on both flights were extremely friendly, plain and simple.

Good hub......
Paris is a very nice airport. It was well kept and fairly easy to get around. Customs and immigration took 30 seconds total, and our baggage arrived relatively quickly. The jetways I found especially interesting, as they were pretty wuch made of glass and I could see what was going on all around. In the check in area I liked the fact that there were seperate check in areas for certain destinations.

Now I think you have a very good idea as to why I think Air France is a very good airline.

Flying with them every 6 weeks. Very good in all respects except for one thing: very frequent delays ranging from 20 minutes to couple of hours for all sorts of reasons. Strikes of various trade employees at CDG, awaiting for connecting pax or bags from other delayed flights, etc. But overall, I still regard them highly. The most pleasant thing with them is the ambiance on board. European style & class but still very friendly & relax at the same time, thanks to their F/As.

I am flying IAD-CDG-ATH-ATH-CDG-IAD. Going to CDG I am on a 777 and comming home I am on an A-340. I think that the flights to athens are on A-320s or something close to that.

ok I will explain you why Air France is my favorite airline :
-great seats
-great entertainment
great food (of course, we are french  Smile/happy/getting dizzy)
-friendly crew. There is something special about the crew. They are very friendly, but not like some for example a few american or whatever f/a are friendly.
They are, hum, lets say may be more "natural"

Sorry, I have to disagree with those on this forum. Air France is a below-average to mediocre airline, in my opinion. I mean this in the strictest Ivy League sense; that is, they fall at about the 30 to 40th percentile of airlines- above NW, on par with PR, slightly below TK, and far below CO, VS, and CX.

You folks all know about how my personal experiences with NW forces me to loathe them. I loathe AF slightly less than I loathe NW. I have flown four sectors with them, EWR-CDG, CDG-TXL, Prague-CDG, CDG-MIA and found them to be consistently disorganized. Some standby passengers were accomodated and then shuffled off with great hustle and bustle. At CDG on our way to TXL the plane fuelers struck after they hustled us out to the aircraft forcing us to wait on the ground for a couple of hours. Also, they lost my sister's luggage on two of those sectors.

However, they never caused significant delay, only inconvenience. My family and I still got back at them when we landed at MIA without my sister's luggage. They gave us T-shirts with the Air France Logo on them so while purchasing new clothes for my sister in Wal-Mart on our way to Orlando for a quick Disney World jaunt, we got felt tipped markers and marked up their T-shirts to say "AIR FRANCE SUCKS". We wore those T-shirts at Universal Studios' Islands of Adventure and got hard looks from all of the French citizens. We didn't care- there were fifteen Germans who had lost their luggage on the same flight and we met some of them and they shook our hands in solidarity.

The bags finally arrived at our home a week after we had enjoyed our four-day vacation in Orlando. We felt vindicated.

Can´t complain! I've done roundtrips from HEL to IAD with AF and never had any problems. OK once was the flight from CDG to IAD delayed because of technical reason but as I said, can't complain. Because of the delay I had an extra 2 hours to watch the action in CDG.

Luggageproblems have only occured on KLM/NW flights that my relatives use quite often, never with AF.

M

Ps. Doing another Rountrip from HEL to IAD in two weeks. Hope everything goes as usual.

Air France finally got smart by bringing their 747-400's into EWR! The old 747-200's are just that...OLD.
The interiors are old and smelly, and the L'ESPACE seats look like they belong on an old L1011!!!!
But I must say their new 747-400's are much cleaner and the seats much nicer!
Please keep bringing the 400's into EWR and anywhere else!
Open your heart and push the limits

Unfortunately, I would have to agree with FlyBoeing. In the air, the service is fine, but on the ground, it's a whole different story. The following link shows what "others" think of AF:

http://www.webflyer.com/forum/Forum21/HTML/002430.html

Thought I'd give you info from both sides - so you can make a balanced, informed decision on them.
