Southwest 737s?

Mon Feb 26, 2001 10:38 pm

Two questions:

1.)Are Southwests new 737-700s being used to expand service or to replace its older aircraft?

-and-

2.)Are they planning to purchase any 737's besides the -700 version? I would think the -600 and/or -900 could fit nicely.

Thanks,

As far as I know, the 73Gs are replacing the older -200s. Southwest will not acquire anything larger than the -700 because it would mean putting an extra flight attendant on board. I doubt they will acquire the -600 anytime soon, though one never knows.

Hope this helps.

Latest I've heard is that SWA -200s (while scheduled to be retired 2004-2005) will probably gone earlier than that. New -700s are for growth, since the -300s are no longer produced, and are technically more advanced. Doubt they'll get the -600s, as it appears their limited fleet of -500s (25 or so) will drive them towards a standard 137-seat aircraft, i.e., either -300 or -700.
