Will UAL Go For The B 767-400LR?

Tue Feb 27, 2001 4:28 am

United Airlines has been a major operator of the B 747-400, B 767-300ERs as well as the B 777-200ER.

However, do you guys think they should go for the B 767-400LR as well for Hawaiian as well as European routes as a subsidy of their long range wide bodies.

And after the UA-US deal has been approved, seven of US Airways A 330 will be gone I think and the B 767-400LR would be a perfect replacement for them.

What do you guys think?  Smile

I don't really think so. UAL is still taking delivery of a ton of 777's, the airline will probably just order a few more to replace the A330's, since they are very similar in terms of payload, and size.

Actually, 777 delivieries to UAL are dying up. They currently have over 50 (I don't know the exact figure) out of a total order of 61, which will be fulfilled by next year. UA hasn't placed any major orders for a while... look for some significant orders post-April 2, the day of reckoning. =P

The 767-400LR I can see as a plane that UA would want to look at closly.

First things first. There is no way that UA would send that to Hawaii. We have already replaced the DC-10s and the 747-200s to Hawaii, with 777s and 767s.

Now, what UA needs to begin looking at are the 767-200s. Some of those birds are getting up their in the years. Although, most will be here for another ten years, as the 762 is well maintained, it is quite, it is common with the 757, and it does its job cheaply and efficiently.

Now...why might the 764LR be good for United? Simple, now that UA is cutting capacity on teh 777s and the 763s, there is a large gap. A gap that could be filled by the 764. The 764 could be set up with about 215 seats to be the middle plane between the 763 and the 777.

Now, I think that if UA were to get this plane, that we would see two very different configuartions. One would be with an extended first and business class cabins, allowing for more capacity on the SFO/LAX-JFK routes. As well as on some routes that warrent the premium cabin space of a 777 or even a 747 but it would not be ecinomical to operate one of those larger planes on.

The second configuration could be with a more normal 767 seating arrangment. Each configuration would be ETOPS certified and have PTVs.

Routes that could be served by these planes are:
MIA-GIG
MIA-EZE
JFK-LHR
BOS-LHR
IAD-LHR
ORD-DEN
ORD-IAD
ORD-SFO
ORD-LAX
SFO-JFK
LAX-JFK
LAX-DEN
SFO-DEN
DEN-ORD
DEN-IAD
IAD-MIA *positioning
JFK-MIA *positioning
IAD-MUC

And so on.

ILUV767:

It would be great to see a B 767-400LR in UAL's livery. I, myself love the design of the B 767-400LR and I think this product is just great!

How about the B 777-300LR? Do you think UAL will be getting some? So as the B 747X Stretch.

Hope to hear from you soon!  Smile
