Hawaiian's First 717: Revised Paint Scheme

Fri Mar 02, 2001 4:36 am

All,

Check it out. Not the best picture, but after the recent disappointments from Frontier and British Midland (Int'l), clean and tropical.

I like that livery, it looks great on a 717.

Tasteful, lush, even sensual. Tropical colors that are not too stereotypical, with a sense of class.

Lovely.

Can't wait to see a pic of this bird on a.net.

Wow,

A white fuselage with a painted tail!
That's never been done before!
That's so original.  Yeah sure

Why couldn't they keep the natural shinny aluminum body like there DC-10s?

That look so much better an unique!

The "natural shiny aluminum body" is not Hawaiian's "real" livery. It's just a modification of American's livery, with Hawaiian colors, logos, and titles applied to it. Note that the three ex-Continental DC-10s have a CO-based livery.

The real livery is what is worn by the DC-9s, and on the now-retired L-1011s and DC-8s:

While the idea of doing a basically white body with tail logo and titles isn't exactly unique, it is an example of doing it right. The tail logo is large, extending beyond the tail itself onto the rear of the fuselage and engine. Also the titles are large, filling up quite a bit of space on the small fuselage. Hopefully the livery will scale well to the larger aircraft that will replace the DC-10s (the DC-9s and DC-10s will not get the new livery).
