Does British Airways Fly The A321?

Sun Mar 04, 2001 4:32 am

Last week, when I was planespotting at London Gatwick, I saw what I thought to be a British Airways Airbus A321 in the new Union Flag livery, taking off toward the west. I know they have A319s and A320s, but I tried looking on the website and found no photos of the BA A321. Do they have them or was I just hallucinating? Was it really an A320 I saw? Does BA have any regional partners that fly them?

GB Airways operates an A321 in full BA colours. There is a pic of it at Just Planes.

I know British Mediterranean Airways which is a BA franchisee has two A321-200's (v2500 engines) but they fly the Heathrow-Tehran route . The first one was delivered in Feb and the second is to be delivered this month March.

LOL,

I thought I was halucinating as well when I saw this plane last Sunday at Malta. But then I pinched myself and she was still there. In the timetable it says operated by GB Airways, but there´s no indication whatsoever of that on the plane.

As GB Airways is a full BA subsidiary it is not noted on the a/c. Brymon a/c are similar. There is a good piece about GB in this month's Airliner World mag.

British Mediterranean
Brymon
British Regional
GB Airways
Comair
National Jet Italia
Maersk

All BA franchise carriers who look/act/speak/fly as British Airways. One should never know if they are flying on real BA or one of the franchisees.

Actually on all BA franchise carriers there is a small logo of the operating airline under the cockpit windows on the side of the nose. It says "Operated by" and the logo of B/Med, Brymon, GB or whoever.

Nice to know B/Med are doing well, getting A321s, Tehran et al - I flew on them to Beirut in 95 when they were still an independant airline with one route (LHR-BEY) and one A320, with three-class seating. They really are a first class operation. I guess they may have had to reduce the quality of service since they became a BA franchisee - when I flew with them, in Economy everyone got a printed menu, a postcard (nice shot of the aircraft), snacks, semi-PTV, the whole lot. And three classes on an A320! Far out.
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz
