Will BA Fly To AKL,BNE,ADE,PERTH Again

Wed Mar 07, 2001 6:52 pm

I have bee wondering for a while with BA reintroducing its own flights to Mel do any of you know or think BA will
fly to AKL,BNE,ADE,PERTH again with their own aircraft.
I think they should fly to to AKL and Perth AKL could be served via LAX like it used to 3-4 times a week I already know they codeshare on QF services from OS and LAX, but QF flights are usually full on the LAX-AKL service. Perth would be important as a gateway to western Australia, they pulled out in favour of a codeshare arrangment with QF via SIN.
Not shore about BNE and ADE though but just wondering.
I would love to see BA planes back at AKL someday.
All thoughts welcome.

Scott.

It was sad seeing BA pull out of Perth, they had been flying there for 34 years.

What seems to be the go is they will look at Perth in a few years time if and when they get there hands on an aircraft that can do the london-perth sector nonstop.

Originally the plan was to connect London to Perth via J'burg, then onto Sydney, taking over Qantas's J'burg-Perth-Sydney flight, however, they backed out of that to the embarrassment of Qantas. Now Qantas have a code share deal with South African on the Perth-J'burg sector. Anyway, not that that is important to the topic Embarrassment)

I do hope they return.

Does Brittania still do seasonal flying into Perth? I've lived here for all my life and still have never seen a Brittania aircraft.

Britania apparently operated charters in Feb to SYD. I'll check with reservations though.

As for the other Oz routes, wouldn't QF be handling the demand to BNE etc?

Dont think BA have any plans for AKL, BNE, and definetly not ADL. But PER may be looked at again, as they were keen on the LHR-JNB-PER service as TAA_Airbus pointed out.

Regarding the charter side, I checked with reservations, and they denied BY has ever offered service to SYD. Apparently AIH DO offer flights to SYD, in Northern Winter.

With BA's ever increasing fleet of 777s it is possible that they will one day return to some of the smaller Australian cities but for the time being I think they are happy to codeshare with QF and operate via a QF/BA hub in SIN.

BA pulled out of AKL somewhere between 1993-95.
I remember seeing their 744's here in the early 90's.
I think demand is there and to add a bit of competition
for Air NZ, operating LHR-LAX-AKL with a 744 possibly a 772. Since they now only fly to LAX twice a day year round in stead of 3 times daily in the northern summer this could also provide extra capacity for BA to LAX. I think starting off at 3 times weekly 744's would be good.

ZK-NBT,

Problem is BA can't carry local pax between LAX and AKL. NZ can since they have an agreement with the US to carry pax between LAX and LHR.

They used to did they lose this right or what, surely it would not take that much to be able to get this right back. Does it not include codesharing since they codeshare with QF from LAX-AKL. I think there is money for another airline to operate same plane services from LHR to AKL.
Comeon BA.
