As is tradition on this forum, TWA, where do you base your statement that "AMERICAN BLOWS"? Now I'm not even exactly a huge American Airlines fan, but to stay at the number two airline in the nation, control an extensive route network in North America, *arguably* leading the US industry to increased leg room with MRTC, and still managing to expand their route network I hardly find them to "blow".

I'm an AAdvantage member and fly AA often, but I agree that the airline has tons of issues:

- Its an anti-competitive monopolizer. Trying to screw over Vanguard and Western Pacific was innapropriate, but the Legend fiasco certainly cemented this.

- It's fares in Dallas are assinine.

- AA's service in F class is still subpar to DL, CO, and others. My grandparents recently came back from PHX to JFK over DFW and were served rotten fruit in first class. Just another example of poor service.

- AA thinking that they could codeshare with BA??? Having 50% of all airlines that can serve the US from Heathrow in the same alliance??? That was complete BS.

Anyway, for all its faults, AA is still a strong airline and certainly a force to be reckoned with, certainly a leaner, better managed carrier than UA.

Well frankly AAs business plan seems stronger to me. I'm not an expert but I am aware that they are trying to strengthen their domestic routes, and focus all european bound traffic to London, and CDG, and expand their asian operations. Though having a less extensive route network in Europe might not seem to be such a good idea, they are focusing their aircraft on routes that they know will be profitable year round, and with BA, AA passengers can connect on to other european destinations. Their choices for new routes have been excellent in my opinion. BUT, I really think its too bad that TWA is going to disappear.

To TWAneedsNoHelp...

Frankly, all of the evidence you provided for the premise that AA has many "issues" is anecdotal.

As far as I am concerned, anecdotal evidence like the kind you have given could only be credible if it were coming from an AA Executive Platinum or Platinum. As the partner of an Executive Platinum member of AAdvantage, it means next to nothing that your grandparents thought they were served "rotten fruit" on an AA flight from PHX to JFK, and that you therefore think that AA's F class is subpar to that of DL and CO. Frankly, I could care less what they or you thought.

Having experienced AA's FC cabin on a three-class Flagship flight, as well as on routes to and from LHR, I can tell you that AA's service is compatible with that of UA's, the only other US carrier with a true first-class product. Both carriers fly a large number of 777's on their premiere international flights, serve real wine and champagne in their first class cabin, have separate lounges for first class passengers at their major gateways, and are in the process of installing first class suites. The same cannot be said about DL and CO.

By the way, they are the ones with the issues. Perhaps, you need to spend some time reading the opinions of true frequent flyers at Webflyer.com. There you will learn why some of CO's frequent flyer's have started a campaign to deny CO the Freddy Award. There you will learn why Delta is such a joke for actually touting its decision to replace some of its coach seats with a new seat that gives the illusion of more room only because it has a thinner seat back. There you will learn as well why SkyTeam and AirFrance has so far alienated almost all of Delta's frequent flyers. While you are there, you may also want to read what AA's most frequent flyers are saying about it. While no frequent flyer is ever entirely happy, there seems to be a consensus on the AA section of Webflyer.com that AA takes customer service quite seriously...

It will be sad not to see those beautifull TWA planes again . I had the opportuniy to fly on TWA and they were an excellent airline . I just hope that a lot of the TWA employees still have work and that they wont forget there TWA past . TWA LIVES ON FOREVER.

The planes may change colors and the name may leave but the spirit will continue within AA. And make AA a great airline once again.
