Toronto's T-New?

Sat Mar 10, 2001 7:01 am

I just finished watching all the little videos of the new YYZ expansion plan. I was left with a few questions about this new terminal. When we drop people off at the Air Port will we be able to watch them board their plane like at LAX? Will there be a place for people to come in and watch planes with out having to have a boarding pass? Will this T-New feature a small mini mall like most large city airports in the USA? The video looks great but it does not seem to be that clear to me! I am wishing for a place where you will be able to view your friends and family board the plane rather then just say good bye at the security check in behind the ticket desk. I find T-3 to be quite boring there is noting to do there except have some Swiss Chalet or William's coffee. I hope the T-New has new and Exciting stuff for everyone!!!!!!

I see no reason why a person w/o a ticket can't get past security check for domestic gates unless int'l and domestic gates operate in the same vicinity. I've heard that there will be a mini mall like other US airports (PHL) and the government just made its wish for high-speed rail link to Union Station official. It will (remember, these are government's claims) cost $100 million to build this high-speed link. The rails exist already and run just a few hundred feet off the new terminal. Some government official has claimed that you can fly in from Singapore or London and you can pick up your luggage at Union Station. I doubt this will happen, but at least Toronto will get a legit link to downtown. It's a shame that YYZ has had to do without such link for such a long time. This plan is supposed to go ahead with or without the winning Olympic bid. But we'll have to wait and see about that.

The large glass building will provide a view of the boarding gates...The departures level i.e the area where the counters are will be above the launge/gate area and there will be a walk way that will give you a view of all of the boarding gates, but you will not be albe to go right up to the gate...Canada has since the Montreal Olympics not permitted non-pax to go up to the gates...We have chosen the european approach to terminal design and have therefor loast the awsome view from the lounge in favour of tighter security. But no worries T-new will have a much nicer view then T3 does....

Well it will now be nice to watch them Take off and Land from inside the building. That is one thing I hate about that airport.
