Denver Expansion

Mon Mar 12, 2001 2:33 am

Hey everyone,

I haven't heard much about it lately, but I remember United talking about expanding concourse B in Denver, so they could do all of their operations on that concourse. Are they still planning this?

Also, have they started construction on the new regional terminal yet...if not when will they?

And the 16,000ft rwy...what is the timeframe for that?

Are there any other plans for expansion at DEN...any airlines looking to expand service there?

Thanks alot...

They are soon going to begin construction on a 36 gate commuter terminal for United Express. The Express gates on Concourse B will be demolised, and Concourse B will be expanded on both ends. Also, Concourse A will be expanded in about 3 years for Frontier Airline's growth. Concourse C will remain the same. There are no current plans of expanding it.
The 16,000ft. runway will be the longest commerical runway in the world. It is schedueled to be completed between the end of this year, and the beginning of next year.

Also, there are plans to build a 4th Concourse, Concourse D in the future. Not anytime too soon though.

Hope that helps

Kind regards.

I thought I may just bring to the attention of all readers that United has the right of first refusal for all gates at Denver. So that pretty much would hamper the airport as long as United is still planning to expand DIA's operations.

Will the new 16,000 foot runway allow a fully loaded 744 to fly out of DEN?

Cba-Ahhh... fully loaded 744's can fly out of DEN anytime... BA has been doing it for years... UAL still flies a 744 from LAX each day... it has no problems...

The 16000 ft runway will allow fully loaded 744 departures during the summertime. UA's domestic 744 from DEN are hardly fully loaded (they aren't fueled to maximum capacity). BA has taken a hit in payload restriction when it flies it's 744s. Until the 12000 ft runways were expanded, LH was concerned that it would be unable to fly a fully loaded A340 into DEN (starting March 25th!).

Concourse B is already too large as it is. I don't know how someone would be able to make a tight connection on United if the gates were at opposite ends. Last time I was out there, it took me long enough to walk to the last gate on the end from the train to meet someone. And now United wants to make it even bigger? Simply crazy.
