Airport Expansion

Tue Mar 13, 2001 4:29 am

Hi, I'm about to do a thesis, which is going to be about all kinds of problems that occur when airports are expanding, such as noise problems, environmental difficulties, lack of space etc...

Normally, I will be studying the case of Brussels National Airport (EBBR/BRU)

Does anyone know where I may find some good resources (websites, books, articles) concerning this topic, or how other airports cope with this problem?

Please do not hesitate to reply. Any sort of information will do!

Thanks!!!

Ivan,

Being in airport management, at an airport that's been undergoing renovations, etc for over 14 years, I can tell you that your subject is indeed a very interesting and timely topic, and also a very complex one.

To answer your questions above in detail could cover an entire book.

E-mail me with some more specifics, and I'll see what I can come up with for you.

I was at 2 airports that the terminals were being built and renovated, PVD and SWF. Try to work in the problems that occur with temp gates, small checkin areas and all around construction problems.

FYI - PVD is now one of the most popular airports in the NE.

Regards

Hello Apuneger
Try out www.uniqueairport.com. It's the Homepage of the company running ZRH. They are expanding the airport right now at the moment and faced many problems with the locals living around the airport.

You want to see a really difficult airport expansion/revitalisation go to http://www.gtaa.com They have an airport development area which outlines all of the issues that are being addressed by the GTAA, as well as detailed information on the project.

On thing I can tell you is that the LOC/Glide SLope gets all screwed up and is unusable if there are crane operations going on near the ILS antenna. Man that was a big problem for us in the summer...but lots of kool go-around pictures.  Smile

Hi,

Once more, thx for all the information. It shows that all aviation enthousiasts are one big family. It's good to know that at least some people are still kind and friendly, and want to help out people they don't even know.  Big thumbs up
