Does Anyone Sahre My Interest In Boston?

Sun Mar 18, 2001 1:54 am

I think it's fascinating how on one side there is the sea and the skyscrapers and on the other there are the houses.

It's a cool place!!

Well, I have only been to Boston once, flew in on Virgin from LGW. It was dark and very, very snowy. Didnt get to see much but what I saw really empressed me.

  • Alitalia 767
  • Air France 777
  • Air France A340
  • Lufthansa 747
  • TAP Air Portugal A310
  • Icelandair 757 (First sight, for me of their new cls)
  • Sabena A340
  • British Airways B777

I liked the airport and the aircraft. I want to go back there to spot as I didnt get a chance last time, school ski trip and all that.

If you mean great seafood, the JFK Memorial Library, Cheers, the world's biggest travel bookshop, Faniuel Hall (sp?), the basement at Filene's, the loveliest architechure and the most history in the United States, the answer is a massive YES.

If you mean Logan, no, not really. It's a good location in some ways but not from a safety point of view. From an enthusiasts' angle the traffic is OK but not that interesting - US, UA, DL, CO, NW, AA and some obvious Europeans (LH, TP, BA, VS, AF)...it's kind of dull compared to Miami or JFK.

Boston is great, seafood: top-of-the-line. I live north of Boston but try to go there as often as I can. Airport is limited in size scince DFW is roughly the size of Logan,Revere and Winthrop put together. Lots to do in Boston, Duck Tours, Swan Boats. Baseball: Red Sox and on the observation deck of the John Hancock Tower there is a live ATC feed from Logan as you can see the airport. BOSTON ROCKS!!!!!

    Truth be told,

Boston is a small boring town with either poor, white trashy people, or elderly "old money" snobs that try to act like they're still from England. The only thing that saves it from being a total dump are the hordes of out of town college kids that flcok there every fall. The town's not even diverse, which is a shame in this day and age in America. Yes, "Beanville" ("Bean City," "Bean Town," or whatever silly name the natives like to call it) is a very RACIST locale that rejoices in it's stubborn narrowmindedness. Where else could you have a bunch of Irish Catholics that hate Italians and vice versa? The crime is through the roof (yes, its crime rate is WORSE than NYC's), yet everyone thinks Boston is so "safe." It's the only place I've been where two groups of strangers chased us away for no reason!

And coincidentlly, I was born there. So I can say these things. Yep, give me Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, or even Cincinnati. At least I don't have trouble understanding the speech of those towns' residents.

    Seven,
What bug crawled up your behind? Your statements are ludicrous. I've lived in Boston since 1986, moving here from NYC. Crime is low compared to other major cities (it's not through the roof); the streets are clean; it has a good public transportation system; the economy is strong and diverse; beautiful architecture; wealthy inner city n'hoods. Of course, it shares a lot of the urban problems common to all cities, but your description is completely inaccurate.
Too bad your experiences were so bad. It's not Boston that's a mess, it's you!

    RE Me Too!

    Sun Mar 18, 2001 6:35 am

I love the way that you approach the runway from the UK, the first time i came to Boston we were on a Virgin Atlantic 742 about 5 years ago i think, we were over the sea all the untill suddenly we passed a picture perfect red and white striped lighthouse and then a few seconds later we touched down. Amazing! My cousin'd live in bost so i make the trip almost yearley now. I've been around 5 or 6 times on BA and VS, Ba kicks now as they are using the 777's with the new world traveller on this route as well as the classic 742's.
What a great city, one of the nicest in the states.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

LGW - Air France has never flown the 777 into Boston. They use the 767 with a 747 mixed in about once a month if even.

As a BOS user though, it is HORRIBLE to fly out of. There is so much congestion that we are trying to build a new runway to reduce delays, and we want airlines to move flights to Manchester, Providence, Bradley, and Worcester to allivate delays. As for photo spots, BOS is one of the most photo friendly airports in the country.

    We also get a lot of variety, with 717, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777, A300, A310, A319, A320, A330, an occasional A340, and all the normal commuter planes.

Plus, you can see it from anywhere in Boston facing the airport or its runways as least as it is high up (I have seen 747s land from the 27th floor of the Westin.)

BA747-436 - Sorry to disappoint you, but BA is switching to all 747-236Bs on BOS-LHR next month.

So to summarize, it is a nightmare for flights, but it is superb for photos.

Actually I like Boston; Logan ain't too bad themselves. But finish the Big Dig!!! It's murder trying to travel within the city by car or bus. It's much better than New Jersey (where I went to high school for all 4 years) I can say that they're rich snobs who don't give a rat's a$$.Especilly in this one area called Morris County. I've also been harassessed and I've also been a victim of a few hate crimes all because I'm Indian( a few of these epsiodes were pretty violent) The police didn't do a damn thing because the people harrassing me were athletes or rich. I wasn't rich and I wasn't all too athletic. Not surprisingly after the Columbine Shootings they all left me alone. Unless if you live in Edison or some safer part of Jersey city or Hoboken than you'll be fine. If you go to Newark. Beware of gettin shot, stabbed, killed or raped. A friend that I once knew; his brother was beaten and draggdd to an ATM to withdraw a $1000 Dolloars and left lying on the street battered and bleeding. The Newark police weren't helpful at all but rather unsympatetic and arrogent, cocky SOBs. I can see why New Yorkers hate Jersey. I'm embarrassed to say I've lived there for a few years. New Yorkers (especially NYPD) crack jokes like

Q: Why do New Yorkers want to go to Hell?
A: Because Jersey is the light on the end of the tunnel.

Give me SFO, BOS, NYC, or even DCA in the USA but please don't give me that living racist, closed minded snobbish hell called New Jersey.

PS those punks also hated me because I was a railroad and airline buff. They were quickly jealous as they came to find out that I traveled to over a 100 countries worldwide. Rhey didn't even know the world outside of the state.

From an airline-competition standpoint, I think Logan is very interesting. No one airline has overwhelming dominance there yet, unless these mega-mergers actually happen. For the time being, AA seems to be giving #1 US and #2 DL a run for their money.

Also, does anyone know how to come by a picture of Delta's plans for a new Terminal A? I'd love to know what they plan to do in such a constrained corner of that crowded airfield.

    Message 2 DeltAirlines

    Mon Mar 19, 2001 12:56 am

Hi DeltAirlines. I dont know what AF normally use but I saw 777 of theres at Boston. I sat there looking at it for over an hour as we had to wait for a space to park at. I even got the reg F-GSPC. So I dunno, maybe a diversion, maybe some french people got lucky, I dunno, all I can say is what I saw

    Regards

Oh, my bad, because in my BOS club someone should have brought this one up. Any pics of it (that's what we need now that BA is pulling the 777)? It might have been a diversion though because BOS is something like third after Gander and Bangor in the list of diversions, I've seen VS A340 G-VSUN next to my gate at BOS diverting from MIA.
