Aviation Schools, Help!

Sun Mar 18, 2001 7:07 am

Help!!!! I am a student looking to attend an aviation school. There are so many out there i don't know who or what to choose. I am looking for the best. If anyone has any ideas on what would be a smart choice and would help me obtain a job in the industry, please help.

Im in the same predicameant. Ive looked through every school in the land and the best i can think is Sabena Belgian Airlines Flying School, based in Scottsdale Arizona, thats where im heading newxt spring. Im a bit biased though as its European school. Ive heard good things about Pan Am academy, or go to, I got their prospectus, and they seem cool. Good luck.

Embry-Riddle is considered one of....if not the best Aviation School in the Country. Go to for more information. I am a student at the DB campus. I love it here. There are 4000 students studying aviation...making it the largest aviation university in the world. We have a fleet of approx. 90 new cessna.s mooneys(mooneys are not new, but are on the way out), and seminoles. We also have a BE 1900 level D sim, as well as a 737 simulation course (still transitioning between 767 and 737). I really love it down here, and the school's reputation can't be beat. Check into every school though before you make a decision because ERAU is VERY expensive...but you honestly get what you pay for!

Other schools I looked at and hear mentioned a lot as the competition are:

University of North Dakota
Parks College-St. Louis

Hope this helps....if you have any me at Make any questions specific though.

Good luck,

Don't just look for the best...look for everything your career counselors tell price, options, finanaical aid, fall-back options (like another major if flying doesn't pan out for reasons)

I had my medical pulled this past January, and I won't get if back for a few years...if I had went to an all flying school, then I would be poop out of luck. Right now I got a choice of basically any major out there (I go to St Louis University, but there is other state colleges than can offer a better deal (U of IL is one))

Also consider location of the school...St. Louis has a lot of job opportunities related to (I was hired by AA my sophomore year for fleet service) A job like this can get you seniority within the system. Most airlines would rather hire and promote from within (given you get the hours etc.etc.etc)

think about it...the decision is yours

American Flyers is a great place. They have 14 schools around the country, top rate programs and excellent name recognition world wide. Many of my fellow airline pilots and I have graduated from there (also because its such an extensive school you will make alot of connections...very important when your looking for employment)

The best!
