How Often Do You Fly?

Tue Mar 20, 2001 2:26 pm

Pretty self-explanitory eh?

Just wondering how often you fly... is it for business, pleasure, family... or are you a pilot or F/A?

Either way - please share your experiences.

Kindest Regards,

As a passenger, I've been averaging about 20 flights a year lately. Usually most being between Denver and the Virgina/North Carolina area.

Once a week for about 1.5... i go up and practice maneuvers and usually bring a friend with me and try to turn he/she green. Its alot of fun buzzing down the coast and stuff. Ill take my instructor up with me sometimes to make sure im keeping my maneuvers in tip top shape. This friday i ahve a ride with my instructor. Ill bring ROTC students up with me and practice teaching them, even though they cant actually log the time... its good experience for both of us.

Too damn often....  Smile

48 flights so far this year for about 30,000 miles. Figure to end the year around 120k. Most of that has been business travel.

Grew up as an airline brat, so at least constant travel isn't a particularly alien concept to me. Crossed my first million miles at age 15 and lost track since then. Gotta be mighty close to the next million by now.

I usually do only about 10-20 flights a year (if connecions are counted as separate flights).

4-8 intercontinental (SFO/JFK/ORD - FRA/MUC)
4-6 cross country USA (SFO-ORD/JFK/DTW or similar)
~8-10 short fights (<2h) in USA and Europe.

I used to fly every year when I lived in Russia, up until 1990. Since then I had 4 flights. So I would love to travel more often...

I'm well over 1 million miles. Probably nearing 2 million...but I couldn't say for sure. I just haven't kept track for a long time. It just depends on my schedule as to how much I travel in any given month. Could be as much as 5 or 8 trips or as few as 3. I usually average around 5 trips per month.

As a student, none of my trips are biz-related. I'm just taking advantage of my NRSA status while I can.

Hi!

For me flying is always a special ocasion. I normally don't fly much, about 4 times a year and mainly for plesure, but also I had some business trips. This year I'll do with my family one to USA again where I hope to fly 7 times. I always take note the type of aircraft and registration so I can remember latter.

Not enough.

Two trips or so a year. Had it been cheaper, I'd probably fly once a month or something.  Smile

I usually fly LHR - BKK about 6 times a year. Then, a European flight probably once every two months. So I guess once a month on average.

Depends, in the last 3 years I have flown only twice, but before I had times when I would fly something like 20+ times a year, and other times when I would fly 5-10 times a year- all vacation thus far.

I usually manage 1-2 flights from Australia-Europe a year (usually 4-6 longhaul sectors - eg: MEL-KUL-VIE and rtn - and 4 shorthaul involved - eg: ADL-MEL rtn and VIE-BRU rtn)

Then there are 4 annual return trips from uni (CBR) to home (ADL) which is usually 2 sectors per oneway journey with a stop in either SYD or MEL

This year, being on exchange to Paris is an exception: so far I have had 14 flights (from Australia through pacific and Sth America to Europe then 2 return flights within Europe)

I fly a lot. I only have about 70 hours for the month of March. I have 5 turns for Skyservice, and I will be doing 3 Calgary layovers for Roots Air, and 1 Calgary turn for Roots Air as well. I did an average of 100 hours/month from Nov - Feb.
In the summer, I fly about 65-80 hours/month, depending on how long the overseas pairings are that I bid for. Last summer I was in Europe once a week, sometimes more. I hope to do mostly overseas flying this summer, and about 1 or 2 Roots Air layovers or turns just for a change. Love the shopping in Europe. Pescara, Rome, Venice & Dublin. I have yet to hold a Palma layover. I hear it's very nice. Maybe this summer.

Fly safe!

I have to admit I'm lucky! I'm a domestic partner of an FA, so I fly alot. Not as much as my partner mind you but more than I used to.

This year I have flown to PDX, LGA, MEM, LAX, MCO, and BDL. All were for fun...

Happy Flying!

I have actually only ever been bumped twice, and both were for the same trip from IAH to CUN for a few days in the sunshine.

Saying that, I live in London, and I try to avoid needing to cross the Atlantic in June. My trips all start in London, so I am having to fly to America to go anywhere as Continental dont fly anywhere from London other than to the States. The Last few months took me to Houston a few times, NY a few times, Rio, Tokyo, Mexico, Canada, and in the next two weeks will take me to Houston, NY, Hong Kong (16 hours in a plane...eek) and then home again.. but as a non rev, you certainly cannot complain about flying bus first all the time and not paying for it

Prior to August 2000 I flew about 3 to 6 times per year on various routes domestically. Since then, I have flown about twice a month PHL-FLL-PHL, with one PHL-YYZ-PHL thrown in for good measure in December...

About 5 times a year. I fly American most of the time. Although lately I've been flying on Delta because they fly to PBI more often than American does.

I would describe myself as a "somewhat frequent flyer." took to the skies 16 times.

8 times on American
6 times on Alaska
2 on America West

Frankly, I probably wouldn't enjoy it at all if I flew more frequently.

So far this year, I have completed 4 flights with have plans for 2 more next month.

I'd really like to do more International travel, but I haven't had much chance.

I flew over 80,000 miles last year on AC(50,000+), DL(10,000) and AA/OZ(20,000+). I also flew non-rev on NW trans continental a few times(~10,000?).

My travels this year will be around 82,000-105,000 flown primarily on AC Internationally.

All travles are pleasure/leisure... not for business(at least not yet).

I average about 3 international flights a week and about 1 domestic. I travel because My current job in The Phantom Of the Opera is in Auckland, I am in Sydney. Also I travel often to PNG as I have a house and a business there. To be perfectly honest, the novelty of flying is wearing thin.

Considering that an Irish passport is valid for 10 years, I have filled 5 of them during that period, including a couple of 90 pagers.

So i guess that the answer is that i fly too bloody much.

Before working at Delta, I was flying 1-2 trips per month, averaging about 75,000 miles per year, all on American. So far this year, however, I have taken at least one trip per week, sometimes 2. In total, I have flown 68 segments, mostly on Delta. Through the end of February, I had flown 55,778 miles, with 44,137 on Delta, and 11,271 on American. On top of that, I have flown the following flights in March, all on Delta (except for the LAX-SAN segment, which was Eagle):

ATL-LAX-JFK-SLC-FCA-MSO-SLC-ANC-SLC-ATL-MHV/LAX-SAN-ATL-LAX-LAS-ATL-LGA-BOS-LGA-DCA-ATL

Most of my travel is leisure jumpseating, though a decent amount of it has been business travel.

I have flown one roundtrip every week at least for about the last 6 years. There are a few exceptions but not many. Maybe stayed home for Christmas a year or two! Flying is finally starting to get old because I am just flying IAH-DFW and back each week. It was better when I was taking longer flights like IAH-EWR or IAH-SFO. At least then it was not a 737-500 every single week!

I'm flying regularly with helicopters for my work. I'm working in the offshore. When we have a job to do at a small platform we have to fly every day. In the moning to the worksite and in the evening to the hotelplatform. Otherwise when we are working in a 14 days shift you fly once to the platform and 14 days later back to shore. Most of the times we are flying with Sikorsky S-76 and S-61 aircraft. The company which we are flying with is Schreiner Airways. We depart from and arrive to Den Helder, Holland.
