928 Jet Vs. Other Options

Tue Mar 20, 2001 9:59 pm

It seems that Fairchild Dornier is quietly developing some fairly large a/c that will be in direct competition with the 717 and maybe even the A319. The 928 Jet based on the 728 Jet seems like it could be the ideal repalcement for airlines looking to replace their 80-110 seat a/c (fokker 100/70, DC/MD/717 series). The range is 1600nm when fully loaded and the interior looks incredible. Check out the web site if you have a chance www.fairchildaerospace.com
Maybe one day they could develope some even larger a/c to compete with Boeing and Airbus in other areas. It also looks like a much more economical replacement over the CRJ's and ERJ's (fuel performance and profitable load factors).

I see KL following the LH (120 plus options) and GECAS (150 plus options) orders in the near future. How bout AA?

I thought the orders were mainly for the 428JET?

Actually, I'm getting really confused: Which was the plane that got cancelled? Also, I thought the 728JET was just a stretch of the 328? Why is it now a "completely new design"? Did they change that? Has anyone ordered the 728 / 928JETs yet?

I glanced at their website, but I only get more and more confused. I am sceptical. I am not sure at all they will be successful - do they actually have launch customers yet?

Thanks a lot for any clarifications

Regards

Hi,
for your information: They dropped the 428Jet (a strechted 328).
The 728Jet, with its brothers 528Jet, and 928Jet are completely new designs!
OK?

They have 114 orders and 162 options on the 728 jet and 4 orders and 2 options on the 928 jet which is supposed to enter service in 2005. I think the list price according to the LH cityhopper order is around $28 million for the 728.

So far, only one airline has ordered the 728. Maybe two if you count an order for two aircraft from Air Sol.

Those and a large 'very loosely' defined order from GECAS for 150 birds make up the entire backlog. Interestingly, GECAS also ordered 150 CRJ's and EMB170's at the same time.

I haven't heard of any other airline interest in the 728's.

GECAS must have some pretty deep pockets. They seem to be ordering a large amount of a/c not only RJ's but 777-300's. Any ideas on who they are going to? I think once the 728 enters service they will receive some more orders. It would be interesting to know how much the CRJ and ERJ's are going for. A lot of old aircraft will need to be replaced soon and there is no shortage of options.

I didn't find anything about fuel pervormance of 5/7/928 on their site, where should I look? Or could you please give me some numbers to compare with CRJ or ERJ.
